I’m not quite sure what’s happened to Twinings lately. They used to be one of my favourite brands for tea, often popping out new flavours that I’d get mildly excited about. In principle this is a combination of three flavours that I definitely like- chamomile, vanilla, and cinnamon- yet somehow they’ve managed to turn this into a disappointing cup of tea. There’s an oddly disjointed feeling between the flavour and the scent. The cinnamon and vanilla work quite well as a scent, reminiscent of a fresh pastry maybe, but the lemon-like chamomile seems to get in the way somehow and over-complicate things. Like some fruit teas and blends I tried from Twinings recently, the flavour is decidedly underwhelming compared to the scent. There’s very little there, just a weak chamomile with a slight earthiness to it that feels a bit lacking in clarity. The biodegradable bags are definitely a plus point, and the individual bags and tags are convenient, but unfortunately overall I think the tea is a blend that should work in theory, but doesn’t work in practice. I’m all for interesting flavour blends, definitely, but I’d rather have a regular chamomile than one of these.
