Excellent test for testing Cupramine
Initial review: After following the instructions very specifically, I was unable to get a reading of copper after I dosed Cupramine into my 10 gallon quarantine saltwater tank. However, after letting the test tube sit for a day, I was able to get a copper reading. Read below for the full review and results: EDIT: After letting the test tube sit for an entire day, I can actually distinguish a copper reading that seems to be nearly accurate with the amount of Cupramine I dosed. I tested ANOTHER sample of the same water, and got copper color immediately? Both tests look identical and it is actually reading right about 0.5mg/L. I am not sure if I should trust the readings, although they would be spot on with the amount of Cupramine I dosed. I'll test it with a Seachem test kit tommorow and update this review. Also make sure to follow the directions precisely, you need to remove the cap and look down the test tube with the white background of the color under the tube, but don't let the tube sit directly on top of the card, the color will appear much darker. Hold the test tube above the card an inch or two. EDIT #2 02/19/18: The Seachem Copper Test kit arrived and the results are in: 0.5mg/L. Right at the amount I dosed. Tested again today with also the API Copper Test kit. Results again, are the exact same. 0.5mg/L. This means (in my case) both the API Copper Test Kit and the Seachem Test Kit are both precise measuring tools if you are dosing Cupramine.

For experienced hobbiest
I've been doing marine/reef tanks over 30 yrs. And reviewing experienced fish Keepers, you can learn a lot. Use of copper for fish parasites is highly effective, but deadly if strict instructions are not met! This copper test is ok for experienced fish/aquariest. But i recommend a more accurate for the beginners and novice hobbiest. And most of all, time and patience must be followed.

Okay but a little hard to read
So if you are buying this to test your tap water for safe standards, it does work pretty well, but it is a color test, and it is difficult to tell and very subjective as to what the reading is. So really you are just guessing and accurate to maybe 1.0 ppm. The thing is, there are digital testers on the market that will tell you 0-5 ppm within .01 ppm accuracy for only $50. Still, its good for the price.

functioned perfectly and was delivered as promised
the test using these strips matched the aquarium test results from the fancy fish store, setting my mind at ease about acquiring shrimp as pets.

Great to know if there are trace levels of Copper (or more) in your tap and tank(s)
Great test kit for checking Copper. Like the other APIs easy to use. Comes with a color guide so you know how much Copper is in your aquarium and tap water. I was concerned as this can be an issue with shrimp and I was having a difficult time establishing a thriving colony. I tested all 6 of my tanks, my tap water, and a test "bowl" with aquarium water. Oddly, I was surprised to find the tap was 0, but all the aquaria had some minor traces of Copper, including my shrimp tank. It was minor, but since it wasn't in the tap, that must mean it is in the food, which if I remember correctly, is a known fact, yet it still surprised me. At least I can use this to help eliminate Copper when I suspect something is going on in one of my tanks. At least I have a baseline. I suppose I could have brought the water in to my LFS for testing, but labeling and asking for 7 tests, I thought was a bit much, so I went ahead and bought this API.

Not for testing if copper is gone
I can’t speak to how well it works- I was hoping to use it to make sure there was no or almost no copper in my water, but it doesn’t measure very low levels so wasn’t suitable for my purposes

Essential if...
Testing water for copper is important if you have ever used a copper-based medicine or if your house is old enough to have copper pipes.

Good to have this to check, but all good

Recommended product... Easy to use and gives near accurate inference on Cu level needed for algae control in water bodies.

Wanted to test the water straight from the tap. This works and it appears to pick up even trace amounts. Distilled water has none according to this kit just as you would expect, Tap water has just the tiniest amount, so it's good to know it can pick up such a small amount.
