Product Description Peter Jackson directs this very gory comedy/horror. 25-year-old Lionel Cosgrove has never even kissed a girl, and so is excited when the lovely Paquita, a Spanish girl who works in the corner shop, arranges a nocturnal tryst with him in the zoo. Unfortunately, Lionel's over-possessive mother, spying on them from the bushes, is bitten by a Sumatran Monkey Rat, and soon develops a craving for raw meat. Upon learning of this, Lionel tries to warn his new love of his mother's strange cannibalistic habits before it is too late. .co.uk Review If you're not a connoisseur of graphic horror and gruesome gore, you'd better steer clear of Braindead, a wicked 1992 horror-comedy from the demented mind and delirious camera of writer-director Peter Jackson, years before he went on to mainstream success with The Lord of the Rings. However, if non-stop mayhem and extreme violence are your idea of great entertainment, you're sure to appreciate Jackson's gleefully inventive approach to a story that can judiciously be described as sick, twisted and totally outrageous. The movie's central character is a poor schmuck named Lionel who's practically enslaved to his domineering mother. But when ol' Mum gets bitten by a rare and poisonous rat monkey from Skull Island and is turned into a flesh-eating zombie, Lionel has the unfortunate task of keeping Mama happy while fending off all the other zombies that result from her voracious feeding frenzies. If you've read this far, you'll either be crying out for censorship or eagerly awaiting your first viewing (or second, or third...) of this wildly clever and audaciously uninhibited movie. While director Jackson would later achieve far greater critical and box-office successes, his talent is readily evident in this earlier effort. If you find this kind of thing even remotely appealing, consider Braindead a must-see movie. --Jeff Shannon

Never fails to be brilliant despite being cheesier than a wheel of Brie

Be careful what parties you get invited to, lmfao! This is one hilarious (and incredibly weird but great) film.
I've seen many films over the years and, when searching for an entertaining horror film, I came across this rather strange but oh so AMAZING comedy horror and I have never laughed so much in my life. I'm not sure exactly what to say about the film because where do you begin when there are so many wonderful and hilarious scenes in it, (I won't describe any in detail as it'll spoil it for any of you who haven't seen it yet) ranging from what the ....? moments that'll have your jaw on the floor and you questioning your own sanity for continuing to watch, as you're fascinated, to moments when you laugh so loudly (especially at the mother, who is superb in this film throughout) you'll find it hard to stop and you'll worry your neighbours are going to knock on your door to ask if you're OK as you'll sound truly demented, shrieking with glee and hysteria. My stomach hurt from laughing so much. The custard scene had me cringing though, gross, but that facial expression on that face...LOLThe special effects in the film in many scenes are very original, unique and clever, interesting, mind-blowing and very well executed; even if some are complete and utter madness (in a good way) and the party moments had me crying with laughter. Don't go down into a basement in a mansion like this one, as you may find a lot more than leaking pipes, oerr, lol. The actors deserve a medal for what they got covered in (would love to see how many outtakes they did for that, one hopefully, lmao) and, without spoiling it for viewers who haven't yet seen this film, prepare yourselves, because if you thought babies were cute...erm, no! What a creepy-looking funny little s...., and that laugh! Oh my God, I thought I was going to cough up a lung as I ended up screaming with laughter at its antics and son's reactions to it getting on his nerves.I'm going to watch this film again because it's incredibly bloody funny and the acting, although not Oscar-winning, it's excellent (even body parts do well in certain scenes, taking on a personality of their own, SO weird, yet soooo amusing - especially the 'thing' admiring itself in a mirror. Wtf, and farting??? lol). Be careful what parties you attend because, if you ever go to one like THIS, you possibly might end up facing a lawnmower, and you won't be cutting any grass either...Best scene that made me cry with laughter? The mother, when she comes back at the end. Truly frightening, very ewwwwww, extremely hilarious when she has a little 'chat' with her son, pmsl. I thought I'd seen it all in life, but nope, I haven't seen anything quite like THIS before and the images will stay in your mind for a while; especially what the mother did on the roof. :-o I haven't seen an ass that big since I walked behind an elephant once at a zoo as a kid. Actually, the mother's ass is bigger. You've got to see it to believe it. I'm surprised there wasn't an eclipse!

Ubergross and funny
Braindead might've been the herald of a newish film genre,Horror-Comedy at the time but in any case this film is as truly gruesome as any average, charmless, bloodthirsty gorefest save that this zombie saga undermines any truly grim vein in its screenplay through its witty parodies of various character cliches such as jealous mother, sleazy, spotty uncle, mummy's boy et caetera. Braindead is set in fifties New Zealand and begins with a spoof or not, homage to the Queen-since the film New Zealand has become a kind of creative Mecca for the Commonwealth especially since the LOTR trilogy was filmed there. I thought the actors fine especially with this weird tale, the romance is heartfelt, the patriotism, decent, the Undead,horrible-the priest kicks arse for the Lord and there are many comic scenes that punctuate the tasteless bloodbath and the stereotypes are complete with an evil Nazi doctor to pander to those Germanophobes still reenacting world war one and two against the Hun and everyone else since(Jackson and Spielberg both fought fake Germans as home movie extras on SPR+LOTR show, wherein perhaps the Tin-Tin collaboration was prefigured). In all,a fun fake gross slaughterhouse of a film made with enthusiastic panache for those with the bad taste for it,with a happy ending but no faerytale before on the way and not for vegetarians or those otherwise squeamish.

better than the US LGF 97min unrated? version
this is it boils and ghouls. timothy balme is lionel a put-upon mama's boy, whom isa 25 yr old (virgin?) whom catches the romatic eye of paquita played by diana penalver whom is automatically hated by lionels domineering mum played masterfullyby elizabeth moody. while at the zoo mum is surprisingly bitten by a very ugly sumatran rat/monkey (lionel should consider himself lucky). this is when the movie starts to get going. gruesome things start to randomly happen. from mum getting sick and other silly things(watch the movie to find out).at about 1hr and 10minutes into the film is when the hardcore fun starts.the last fourty minutes of this film would make the average occasional horrorfan cringe, but i actually love this crazy stuff. i cheered the demon infected zombies on right up to each one of their deaths and laughed all the way to theend. so much gratuatious blood intestines and everything else. lionel takes great care of getting the job done exterminating all the crazy dead with a great chopping device...a lawnmower. simplistic yet very cleverly executedif you want to know what happens to the rat/monkey buy this film, watch and find out on your own. i don't want to give to much away. i bit-o-mystery is good for advertising.now! when is peter jackson going to get back to making horror films?
