Great movie
I watched this when it first came out. After I don’t know how many years since I’ve watched it. I’ve watched it several times since and had it on vhs and thought time to upgrade. Still hadn’t seen it for a while and certain parts still get to me. One of the best movies of all time in my opinion with a all star cast. If you haven’t seen it it’s a must see movie!

Great movie.
The Deer Hunter is an awesome, complicated war/drama with some of the best acting I've ever witnessed. It won Oscars for a reason. It's pretty long so you'll have to devote time to it since all three parts are best watched in order.

Angela: "It's such a gray day."
Bleak little hamlets like the one depicted in THE DEER HUNTER really exist. Small town life doesn't automatically mean an Andy Hardy idyll. The hellish steel mill jobs Michael (Robert De Niro) and his friends endure go far in explaining why they're all heavy drinkers. Despite outward comraderie and a jolliness induced by an alcohol buzz, these are deeply unhappy men. For them, deer hunting is more than an avocation-- it's therapeutic and necessary for their mental well-being.Michael's clashes with Stan (John Cazale) only scratch the surface of a deep, smouldering resentment, not of one man for another but of a group of contemporaries for the vagaries of chance that placed them all in a life where one has to silently suffer under the perpetual ennui that a certain miserable future guarantees. This is what stays with me most about Michael Cimino's masterpiece: the grayness of a tiny steel town, not so much in the weather but in the cradle-to-grave experience of just trying to eke out some kind of existence and find meaning for it all in such a sorry place and time. And that covers only about an hour of a 180 minute story ultimately immersed in the horrors of the Vietnam War, but it's always what stays with me most, and what leaves me feeling so melancholy whenever I watch this great film.Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 IMDb viewer poll rating.(8.2) The Deer Hunter (US/UK-1978) - Robert De Niro/John Cazale/John Savage/Christopher Walken/Meryl Streep/George Dzundza/Chuck Aspegren/Joe Grifasi

7/10 film, great product.
the product is great, didnt come damaged at all. i have a strange stance on the film itself, but i liked it enough to get a blu ray.theres three parts of the film, as one of the reviewers says. the first part is way too long, it was probably used to build character which it almost does successfully if i could decipher the voices and such (this movie goes up and down in audio aswell, but i don’t mind too much). the second part is the war and in my opinion just shows you what you need to see. i feel there should have been a longer battle sequence but this isn’t really a movie about the war, but the soldiers. the third part, which really makes the film, is the aftermath. how it effects the characters and brings out who they truly are. the blonde guy who got married was always cowardly and nervous and never sure, deniros character always helped other people more than himself and doesnt know how to help himself almost. except christophers character, he changes into a tool for money and show. its a sad and depressing movie, and makes you respect soldiers more for going to protect their country and enduring all they do.
