A bit harsh, but it does the job
I bought this for use with a cello and I clipped it inside one of the sound holes. It picks up well and can be amplified without undue feedback problems, but is quite harsh sounding. It's just about what I expected from a cheap piezo pickup, as there was no way I'd spend £300+ on a professional cello mic. If you want to amplify a solo cellist for an important concert or recording then you should really be looking at buying or hiring a much better mic, but for use within a band or amateur orchestra where just a bit of amplification is needed, you can't really beat the price/performance on offer here.

A temporary solution
It does get the sound to an amplifier, but it's a bit raspy. To be expected at this price. It's also subject to a lot of interference, if you are playing with other instruments, causing a bit of feedback at times. It's okay as a temporary solution, but not a good idea for concert work.

Does the job well
At the price this isn't going to be the most sonically accurate pickup out there, but for an easy, cheap device that picks up and amplifies the bulk of the sound, it does so extremely well. I now have two of these that see weekly use (had one for a couple of years) and both still work just as well as when I bought them.

It's a good basic quick fix for an acoustic fiddle but as it sits on the body of the instrument, inevitably picks up a great deal of surface noise - particularly coming from knocks on the belly of the fiddle

Flimsy, but at least the violin survived
Took this out for its debut gig and unfortunately got stagebombed! The pickup snapped in half as soon as the cable was pulled, which was way preferable to the F-hole of my violin breaking, but at the end of the day I got less than an hour's use out of it.

Great pickup for the money
I got this for the mandolin player in my band as we were having trouble getting the mandolin heard using mic's at previous gigs. I wasn't expecting very much for the money but I have to say it does a pretty good job. It clips into the sound hole of the mandolin in seconds and gives a clean loud signal sent via a DI box to the PA. You have to take off a bit of treble to make it sit in the mix, but it sounded fine after that, and didn't cause any feedback problems. For around £6 that can't be bad! The jack lead that comes pre attached to the pickup is quite thin so I will have to see how that lasts, but no probs so far. I've given it 5 starts overall due to cost, quality of results and convenience. For sound quality alone if I had no idea how much it cost, i'd give it 3 stars.

Great piece of kit!!
For the price it performed rather well. Well suited for a small room or hall. The only disadvantage is that the clip could be a little bigger to prevent slipping otherwise not bad at all!!

Good value
I bought this to use with my bazouki for home recording, and although it's not suitable for gigging, combined with ambient miking it really adds the body that the ambient miking alone doesn't achieve. And for the loose change price tag, it's a bargain!
