Educational and fun
Sounds like fun. Larvae are take about ten days to come. My great grandson is having so much fun with this kit! Butterflies almost here! Even his mom is excited watching them! Highly recommend.

Great gift and very educational
I bought this for my 5 year nephew for his birthday. The first thing him and his brother did each morning was check on the caterpillars. They both really enjoyed watching the life cycle of the caterpillar turn into a butterfly and they learned so much from the information that came with the kit. The instructions were easy for their mom to follow for each stage. The container and net was the perfect size. The boys liked watching them transition to butterflies but they also enjoyed opening the net and watching them fly away. It was great gift for a 5 year old but his 3 year old brother equally enjoyed.

Good idea, and fun for the children.
It’s great. Children enjoy taking care of them.Very fun idea, the only thing is I did not expect, that they charge you for S&h and it’s $11 bucks.I just wish they were clear on extra cost.Total price came down to $30 I hope it helps to someone to be prepared pay extra.

Really fun and interactive butterfly garden for kids
I get one of these every year for my kids (now 10 & 7) and they are equally excited every time. It is such a cool hands-on learning experience for them to watch every developmental stage of the butterfly. You do have to order the caterpillars separately but it is for a small charge (under $10). The only reason I don't keep the habitat and replace it each year is because it gets stained during the transformation stage (a little gross) so I prefer to just buy a new clean one each year. This kit never disappoints!

You do have to purchase the eggs for $19 more
This was very fun. Just wished they would post that to get the eggs cost $19...for shipping and prossesing. We did get 6 in our container. It was fun watching them grow to butterflies. I still have all of the items to do it again. May try praying mantis next time.

Great Experience, but would not recommend
Although I found this experience, educational and beautiful, I don’t think I would recommend this for other people simply because of the stress it puts on the animals. There are a lot of unexpected things that were not described in the pamphlet as to their behaviors and what would happen to them in captivity. For example, we received six caterpillars instead of just the five to which I thought was awesome because I would have a bonus butterfly. However, it turns out one of the caterpillars was a bit of a runt. It ended up being cannibalized most likely due to the lack of resources for all six of them to be able to survive. If you do decide to purchase a butterfly kit, you should know the timeline matters. They did not disclose ahead of time how much time it would take, which meant I had to work around their schedule, not mine. Just know that it takes about two weeks to receive the caterpillars once you order them, and then about a month for the caterpillars to go from arrival to emerging from their chrysalis. They must be released in a temperature of 60-80°F, so plan accordingly.I admit that releasing the butterflies was a beautiful experience. I’m glad I did it soon after they emerged because I learned they only live up to three weeks after they come out. Also know that red liquid coming from their bodies is a normal part of their emerging process. I very much enjoyed the experience, though some of it was a little heartbreaking. It was especially hard to have to describe to kids why one of the caterpillars didn’t make it in which I chose to use an age-appropriate approach. All in all, I would say if you can do this from a more natural setting, do. Otherwise, the experience was absolutely worth it to me being a big butterfly fan, but I would never put another set of caterpillars/butterflies through that again.

No chrysalis and no means to get delivered in Canada
Have a grandchild who was thrilled with the kit until we all realized it here’s no chrysalis’s included and you have to order from US. US not allowed to ship to Canada-across any borders…. We have a beautiful netted home for caterpillars to hatch into butterflies to look at… Total rip off at the cost especially insulting without the chrysalis being shipped alongside. Even in US you have to place order after you receive the kit, to get the chrysalis so child is with a gift that is unusable. Until, if in US, you put in the order that is the whole concept of the gift/kit.
