StaggSMTIM F38 Timpani Mallets

Soft drumsticks for my old electronic pads.
Anybody hoping for a review of how these are on timpani should probably move on, since I'm using these to give myself more of a drumming feel when I use electronic drum pads. I have a Roland Octapad 2 that I've had for years, and the "drum" heads are getting a little too old to withstand ordinary drumsticks anymore, it seems that the plastic heads no longer like being struck by a typical drumstick. so I thought I'd keep the drumstick "feel" and use softer heads on the sticks than wood on plastic. The felt beaters on these are still very firm - there's nothing soft about felt in this application! The impacts on the Octapad, though, is spread over a slightly larger area which I feel will improve the remaining life of the drum heads. There is a slight but perceptible effect on the velocity sensed by the Octapad, but that can be corrected in a DAW or by adjusting the sensitivity profiles of the drum heads. For me, it isn't enough to warrant fiddling with software settings, I can live with it.The main thing for me is to help eke out the remaining life in my older equipment, and I think these will do a fine job of that. The hardness of the beater head (about the same as the old rubber mallet used by doctors to get a knee-jerk reaction, hard but not quite painful) is enough to give a brisk response while treating my elderly Octapad with love.I have tried these also on my cajon, and while they are less subtle than a hand full of fingers (harder to get very fast rolls!) they actually create a nice robust sound that I can definitely use.I apologise again to any timpani users out there, but I have some old kit that needs a gentler touch and these fit the bill. Needs must, when the devil drives.

Rather too heavy and hard for me
I found it difficult to judge from mere description but when these arrived I immediately found them rather harder and heavier than the set I intended to replace, so I repaired the old set someone had ruined, with wood glue, and use them in preference. I still have the new ones in case I need a heavier sound but I can't turn the handle round and use the wooded end on the cymbals in the middle of a 'mallet' session. I play a full drum kit but more restrained than most, I suspect.

Sturdy and reliable
Great product for our soccer team’s drum

Not 'very soft'
These mallets (F38) are fine, but not 'very soft' as described. They have a firm attack when played on cymbals - so not great for smooth cymbal rolls or crescendi.

Four Stars
Like the mallets, maybe the felt ist a bit too hard, but this a matter of taste.

Not great for the money but may have just been a bad set
Arrived really quickly, look great but one of the tops flew off during the first practice session. We only play for a community group so no rock star playing, so we hoped they would have lasted a little longer! Nothing a bit of hot glue didn’t sort, but not great for the money we paid and no time to send them back hence why two stars as we didn’t have time to give the seller a chance to resolve.

As advertised
Just what I was expecting. No surprises and works well with my set of crash cymbals.

Great value timpani sticks.
Ideal for occasional use on the drum set for those crescendo cymbal rolls. Perfect
