Wood Trick Modern Kinetic Clock 3D Wooden Puzzles for Adults to Build

I found this kit to be endlessly fascinating, both to build and to watch in operation. The concept behind the design is a real treat; mechanism seems to be floating in mid-air. The parts come in three wood panels and a small plastic panel. Panel 3 contains a tool in the lower right-hand corner (marked "0"); I highly recommend you use it to remove the parts from the panels, especially the small parts. Assembly instructions are easy to follow, once you get used to following the arrowheads instead of left-to-right. Materials are good and thick stock, so risk of breakage is minimal. There will be some occasional burrs and flash on the pieces, so be sure to sand them down smooth. Most of the timekeeping mechanism is in the base; the accuracy can easily hold its own. The floating mechanism that operates the hour hand is very ingeniously designed, using weights to hold the proper orientation of the gears. I took my time on the build, over a few evenings, and it went very smoothly overall; just be VERY sure to use the sandpaper and paraffin on the parts and places indicated, to ensure smooth operation. All in all, it was a treat to build, and quite worth the money.

I use a brown Sharpie on the edges of all pieces. This gives a more unified look. I made sure all parts moved smoothly as I continued assembly. My next step is adding the hour mechanism in the center. I will be throwing this away. The switch does not work. The slotted component on the circuit board is for positioning the second hand. A signal is sent across the gap. The rectangular toothed gear passes through the gap signaling the next tooth has passed through stopping the minute hand. The minute hand adjustment works in both modes. The clock and USB clock modes do not work at all. The clock is useless because of this. My grandmother had the same clock made out of glass and brass. I wanted to give this finished clock to my mother. Now it goes in the trash. Has anyone else had a problem with the battery/USB mode switch not working? Fixed it. I figured out the problem. First of all I didn't mean the second hand since there isn't one. I meant the minute hand. That was part of my mistake. Just a suggestion. The instructions clearly state during the center gearing assembly to pay close attention to the gear alignment markers. Could this also be done for the large gear that passes through the positioning sensor? The minute hand pointed at the line separating the numbers on the face when I completed the assembly of the large outside gearing. I had to disassemble the clock to get to the gearing. I then flipped the positioning gear and reassembled the clock without breaking any parts. That gear is not symmetrical. I took it for granted that it was. After the flip the minute hand now stops directly between the lines separating the numbers. The clock is running on time after running with the batteries for two days. I am very pleased with the result. I would upgrade to four stars if I knew how. It would be five if it was clearer how to align the outer gearing. Very challenging kit.

Doesn’t keep time! And it doesn’t function continuously, advances only every five minutes. A real waste.

It was a lot of fun putting this together, but the clock does not keep time accurately. The hour hand gears get caught and the hand sticks. Otherwise it’s a great looking piece.

Hello, I can't recall how many of these wooden puzzles I have assembled; close to 50, so I am not a novice at this. However, this clock was a real challenge. At first, it looks very simple because of the limited number of parts and the thin book of instructions. Well, let me say, it gets serious very quickly. It doesn't take long to realize the intricate nature of this clock mechanism, and to understand that all of the moving parts have to be sanded and waxed as instructed, perhaps even a little more so! Others have noted the difficult in removing the parts from the boards; this isn't a problem if you simply use a sharp blade of some type to cut the little wooden "bridges" that hold the parts in place. This is not unusual in these kits, and is essential in some. I found it necessary with some of the parts in this kit. Another little problem is that it is very difficult at times to look at the photographs and see clearly how the parts work together. My advice, keep studying it and it will come to you; it may not make sense, but it is necessary if you want the clock to work. This is especially in the final assembly of the clock hands mechanism at the very center of the clock!!!! Another suggestion is that you carefully sand and wax the final cover that goes over the circular clock mechanism. You are not told to do this in the instructions, but I found it necessary in order to keep the parts from rubbing. So, be extremely careful with the total assembly, and you will be rewarded with a clock that runs smoothly and keeps accurate time. In fact, I am totally amazed at how accurate the clock has been for the past 48 hours since I finished it. BTW, I am running my clock off the usb connection; I can only assume that batteries will give you the same result. All in all, one of the most expensive, and one of the most challenging kits that I have assembled, but now that it is completed it is one of the most rewarding! Good luck!

Customer service folks are very knowledgeable and patient. These models are well designed and work as described. If something doesn't fit then you have not followed the illustrated instructions. Be patient and look closely at all illustrations and instructive symbols.

Ive been building these wooden mechanical puzzle/models for a couple of years now. With these wood puzzles you need to be patient and meticulous about assembly. Take the time sand off every bur then use wax. And pay attention to the instructions. Most bad reviews i see are usually operator error. This clock is not for beginners nor some one expecting to just slap a bunch of pieces together and have it work. Any ways… This was by fat the most challenging one i have put together. Despite only having 157 pieces. But I'm very haply with the end result. Im using the usb and it has kept accurate time for three days now. I actually replaced the clock i had in the living room with this. I saw a few complaints about the cost. To me it was worth the money. The quality of the wood also really impressed me this time. (Last time i got a Woodtrick puzzle it wasn't so good.) Every thing fit the way it is supposed to. And it works.

Halfway through building. This gear pops out all messed up, i flip it over to find its not etched out fully through, burnt in the center most layer. 1 tooth has completely snapped off. This gear is necessary, and there is no spare, so I'm up a creak with no paddle. I click for a refund, it says a refund is not available?!? We’ll see how it goes with contacting the seller. Update: this broken piece was replaced at no cost to me. It took about a week to arrive, i was able to finish the build. It looks great, seems to work pretty good. Over all, I'm happy with how the situation was handled. I really enjoy these builds, and ill definitely be getting more Wood Tricks in the future

Für mich ist diese Uhr ein Toller Hinkucker, da der Stundenzeiger im ersten Moment zu Schweben scheint. der Aufbau lief problemlos und hat bei mir schätzungsweise 5-6 Stunden gedauert. mir ist nichts kaputt gegangen und alles hat schön ineinander gegriffen. Zur Einschätzung bin gelernter Tischler und habe vorher keine Erfahrungen mit solchen Sets gemacht. Nach inzwischen über 3 Wochen läuft die Uhr bei mir problemlos mit einem Alten handyladegerät und einem USB Kabel. (Akku Funktion nie getestet) bisher habe ich noch keine Zeitverschiebung der uhr bemerkt und noch nicht korrigiert. Die Zeiteinstellung geht recht unproblematisch, Minuten per Taste auf der Rückseite (Knopf ist haltbar), und durch den Freihängenden Stundenzeiger kann man schnell eine Stunde vor oder zurück stellen, was bei der Sommer/Winterzeit Umstellung Praktisch sein wird. Von der Laustärke her finde ich sie Vollkommen in Ordnung, sie läuft einmal Pro Minute für etwa 2-3 Sekunden und ist dann wieder absolut geräuschlos und selbst der Moment wo sie durch die Mechanik ton verursacht ist sie so leise, das Zimmerlautstäre sie schnell übertönt. beim Aufbau hatte ich keine Probleme gehabt und alle Ersatzteile sind bei mir auch noch vorhanden. den Aufbau habe ich komplett ohne externes Werkzeug geschafft.

To those who like a bit of a challenge, then you will enjoy this Zodiac Kinetic Clock 3D Wooden Puzzle. I have been spending a few hours each day for the past three days putting this together and I still have not finished as it is a little tricky to build. My advice is to take your time, be very patient, do not rush and persevere! It will be great & fulfilling in the end, hopefully! Putting this together may look a little daunting at first but the included illustrated manual is quite clear and easy to follow step by step. Some parts are more fragile than others, so be extra careful not to break those parts. It’s also important that you only pop out the parts required for the current step or else, disaster might ensue. This came well-packed in a branded box which would make this as a great gift for any occasions. It is particularly suited to anyone who likes a challenge of constructing stuff. Overall, it’s a high-quality wooden puzzle which I am very pleased with. This is not only a decorative piece but also a functioning clock. Highly recommended!

My DIY skills are non existent. But in just under 3 hours, I have fully built this clock. It looks brilliant and looks really smart. Using the slide button at the back, you can either run this on batteries or hook it up to USB-c charge (which it doesn't come with). The batteries are cleverly built in the clock and easy slide panel to replace them. It's very quiet when running, but there is a constant ticking sound. You can just about hear it in my video. There were a couple of moments where it is tough to put together, but I think that was because I was scared of breaking it. The only annoying part are the plastic pieces. These are very weak and break very easily. However it does come with additional wood and plastic pieces incase of this scenario. Overall this is great. The price is for both the fun and joy of building, as well as the finished piece. I do worry if you break an important piece at this price though!

Ce kit de montage d'horloge est absolument super ! Il se compose de : - Plusieurs plaques d'éléments prédécoupées au laser - plusieurs petites boîtes de pièces (boitier d'alimentation, carte de commande, paraffine, moteur, etc.) - La notice d'assemblage Il vous faudra aimer les jeux d'assemblage pour vous y attaquer car l'horloge ne se monte pas en 30 minutes. Je l'ai assemblée complète en environ 3h en prenant mon temps. Suivez bien la notice, une erreur est vite arrivée et se tromper de pièce peut être possible au risque d'en casser une lors du démontage. Respectez également les endroits ou il vous faudra appliquer de la paraffine car celle-ci va permettre le bon fonctionnement du mécanisme. Lorsqu'elle sera assemblée, vous aurez le choix entre l'alimenter par pile ou par batterie externe via USB. J'ai vraiment apprécié l'assemblage car cela nécessite d'être minutieux, patient, et voir l'assemblage final rend fier. Je recommande ce kit sans aucune hésitation !
