You are both right and wrong. Wasabi is Japanese green horseradish. Often an imitation is used because authentic wasabi is in limited supply therefore extremely expensive. Nori Maki Arare is flavoured with artificial wasabi or common horseradish. The latter is more unlikely than not. Authentic, and imitation wasabi is hot like horseradish but is slightly sweeter and smoother to the taste. We often use wasabi as a condiment served with sushi, or sashimi (raw fish) It is eaten as a mixture of wasabi and "shoyu" (soy sauce)
