Is this easily dismantled? I only need the actual button at the front to slot into our existing wired connection unit which works fine.

Yes. Out of curiosity I unscrewed the brass part from the white bit behind and was able to remove the button. I put it back together and was able to use the whole unit by my unscrewing the knurled ring and setting it into the brass housing. This gave me new clean electrical contacts, replacing the weathered ones that I had used for about twenty years.

I don't know as our 1987 antique looking brass doorbell had stopped working and we bought the new push switch and fitted it immediately so now I can't see the back of the switch and we threw the packaging away, eighteen months ago, when we bought it. What I can tell you is the doorbell is still working perfectly with this switch!

Is this a awlays open or closed switch as Ik need one that only turns on when the button is depressed

It is always open and is only closed when the button is depressed. When the button is released the circuit returns to open.(OFF)
