Such a great read
Ordered and read this in preparation for the movie, which I saw, yesterday thanks to being a Prime Member. So often, I find book adaptations or prequels to differ a great deal from the film. This is not the case, here. Not only are the characters faithful to their onscreen performances, they are faithful to the source material and concepts behind them. The author does not overburden us with descriptions and the backstories are good enough that you get a sense of the characters and feel invested in them, while leaving you wanting to know more about them, and look forward to seeing their further adventures. They are fleshed out very well.I would definitely look forward to reading more, if the author was authorized to make a series for these characters, as I do not feel anything was taken away from the movie or would be taken away, by doing so.As another note, the author was quite failthful to the Forgotten Realms setting and that impressed me, as well.

Fun
Well written story setting up the forgotten realms into the popular movie. Great origin story for the group, I am looking for more on this topic.

The adventure movie I've been dreaming about
I grew up watching cheesy adventure movies and playing D&D always wishing that one of those movies would be great. I'm so happy they finally got it right and hope there are many more to come.

For children
I’m a huge fan of Forgotten Realms and this book absolutely let me down. It’s written at. 5th grade level and the characters have exactly that much depth. The main character doesn’t even carry a weapon when he nonchalantly strolls out to explore a haunted island that they suspect has been the cause of multiple people going missing. Absolute drivel.
