Brilliant forever lantern.
Had mine for years and a coleman dual fuel stove. One 5l can of petrol has been more than enough for 2 adults and 5 children camping for a week. Thats a lot of cooking and hot water and the lantern on for hours every night. On those chilly nights the lantern also warms the tent. Dont believe what people say about not being very bright- more like taking a small sun camping. My video is from last week on a lantern 22yrs old!!! Gas stove in the vid as forgot the dual fuel stove and had to nip out and buy a temporary fix.

TL;DR -- Excellent Coleman lantern, arguably the best one in their current lineup. Case is great if you use your brain. Background: I am a heavily experienced camper (not backpacker, so none of my current reviews will speak to weight or portability) with years of trying out different products. I am also a believer in the merits of "old school" products that just work. As such, I've always been a single-mantle Coleman lantern guy. My grandfather's Coleman 200A from 1951 still works perfectly, as does my father's lantern from the 70s. Now that I'm rebooting my camping life with my own wife and son, I thought it best to buy new equipment and preserve the old equipment as heirlooms that I would like keep safe. I recently purchased two Coleman 286 single mantle lanterns. Unfortunately, I had bad luck with both of them with regard to quality control (flare-ups on starting and flickering when expecting steady light). This led me to buy this double-mantle version based on a lot of online research and input form very kind members of vintage Coleman forums. Why did I always stay away from dual mantle models? Not sure, apart from the fact that we always had the single-mantle versions growing up. The cost of mantles is minimal so that's not a good reason (PS: I recommend looking into Peerless 2C-HG mantles for this lantern due to their brightness and white tone, but I leave it to the reader to decide on those vs. Coleman mantles which are also good, just more yellow in temperature). The fragility of mantles is a fact of life with these lanterns so that's not a good reason. The fuel usage is the same, so that's also not a good reason. Conclusion: no compelling reason to insist on a single-mantle lantern! On the flip side, the advantages of dual-mantle setup are significant. In terms of start-up, the two mantles heat up the generator faster, preventing any sort of flareups and making the startup process generally smooth.Once the lantern is going, the ability to adjust the brightness is functional and realistic (no flickering, pulsing, or flame-outs). The two mantles seem to provide an excellent range of brightness using the simple control on the front of the lantern, and cast light evenly from both sides of the lantern as there is no shadow thrown by the generator. For reference this lantern is the exact same size as the Coleman 286 and the case is the same as the stand-alone green and black one. Regarding the case, Coleman is not foolish. They've designed scores of amazing products over the course of many years, and they're not going to suddenly release a flawed case for their single most iconic product. Just make sure to push the sides of the case inward firmly until you hear the satisfyingly solid CLICK on both sides, and your lantern is now secure. Double check before you lift it up, and you'll have no issues. Enjoy the outdoors, leave no trace, and respect nature. :)

I've been using the Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern for several months now, and I’m thoroughly impressed with its performance. Right out of the box, the build quality is excellent, with a sturdy design that feels durable and ready for outdoor adventures. The dual fuel capability is a game-changer, allowing me to use either Coleman Liquid Fuel or unleaded gasoline, making it incredibly versatile and convenient. The lantern provides a bright and consistent light, perfect for camping trips, backyard gatherings, or emergency situations. It’s easy to light and adjust, with a simple control knob that lets you dial in the perfect amount of light. The large fuel tank ensures long burn times, so you’re not constantly refueling, which is a huge plus for extended outings. One of the standout features is its reliability. Regardless of weather conditions, this lantern performs flawlessly. Whether it’s cold, rainy, or windy, the Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern lights up every time and maintains a steady brightness. It’s also relatively lightweight for its size, making it easy to pack and carry. The only negative thing I have to say about this particular product is the carrying case. And it's not just this lantern—Coleman's carrying cases have always been lacking throughout my entire life. Overall, the Coleman Dual Fuel Lantern is an outstanding product that delivers on its promises. If you’re in need of a reliable, bright, and versatile lantern for outdoor adventures or emergencies, look no further. This lantern is worth every penny and has become an essential part of my outdoor gear.
