It worked great to locate a very small LP leak. Had a new furnace installed and could faintly smell gas from time to time. Tried soapy water and leak detection liquid from plumbing supply house but couldn't find it. Bought the PT520A and started checking the gas joints and found the leak within two minutes. It was in a connection under the gas valve that I couldn't really get to with my detection solutions. The PT520A is very easy to use and clearly tells you when gas is detected. It is basic. There is no readout telling you the concentration of gas but the audible alarm and bar graph give you a general idea. In my case it worked very well to locate the leak and is worth the money. I would recommend it for a cheap detection devise for around the house or camper. And yes, I did call the furnace installer and they responded within 2 hours to correct the issue.

This thing is Awesome. Works as Advertised and detected my methane natural gas leak test no problem. Only had it for a day so cant say anything about longevity but for the here and now it does what its supposed to.

Works great. CAUTION WITH BATTERY COVER SCREW!! The battery cover screw is not captured. So it can easily get lost. It took me a few minutes with a nylons covered vacuum hose to find it. (-1 star) Other than that it is simple to use. I have it for my RV. We smelled gas and order one, after years of putting it off. I quickly found the leak before it arrived (Gkid/toddler turned knob on stove). But I still want one, to check leaks around tanks, shut off valves, etc. tested it in a col scenarios and it detected them quickly. I'll use it periodically around the RV to ensure the precious LP is not freeing itself! 😄

This thing saved our butts. We had a slow leak left after the generator was installed but didn't know it at first. Had a few people say they smelled gas outside. I couldn't be sure, so I bought this, and it detected multiple leaks along the line with accuracy and sensitivity. The gas company came out and fixed their side, and the plumbers came back to do theirs. But if I hadn't bought this tool, who knows what could have happened. Lifesaver.

Owning an older rig we're definitely wondering how our fuel lines have been. Decided to buy this unit and try to see if make sure there's no leaks. Works well. I know it works instantly as I tried it with a cigarette lighter and it went off instantly as well as turning on the propane stove without lighting it. Very good instructions, seems well built.

This was a lifesaver, literally. We had occasionally smelled gas for years - had it checked early on and was told that there was no leak, so we've just ignored it. A couple months ago, I started having breathing issues and assumed my asthma was just flaring up (began prescription inhaler) but started losing my voice as well. After a few weeks of this, I happened to smell the gas again and decided to order this detector - if nothing else, it would be good to have on hand. Upon delivery, I tested the connection to our gas logs. The device started screaming as soon as I put the sensor beside the connection point. It didn't do much "around" the logs, but it went crazy at the connection itself. I called the gas company and they sent someone out - his expensive tester confirmed there was a leak! It took a couple of weeks, but I was able to stop using the prescription inhaler and everything returned to normal - we work from home and were being exposed 24/7. This gas detector is incredibly effective and can literally save your life! This was worth EVERY PENNY and more - this is a "must have" for every house with gas lines/appliances.

We bought this because at times we could smell a strange odor in our garage. We recently had a new gas water heater installed so we thought that it might be a gas leak. This detector didn’t detect a gas leak. Turns out we were smelling a dead bird behind a cabinet. We tested the detector on our gas stove just to make sure it worked and the alarm went off immediately.

This is a lot better than I expected. It feels robust, the goose neck holds its shape well and is a good length. It is easy to use, the only special action you need to do is to 'zero' it when you turn it on. You do this by turning it on somewhere with no combustible gases (I step outside to do this) and just wait about 15 seconds. Test it out by, for example, turning on a gas ring on your job briefly or letting gas escape from a lighter. I found my white board pen with the cap off was enough to set it off. Other came comments mention that the display is not bright enough. It is not backlit, so if you plan to use it outdoors you may need to cup your hand around the display to see it better, depending on the ambient light. This is not a problem for occasional outdoor use ( I checked my gas meter) but might annoy if you plan to use it primarily outdoors. There was no problem at all using it indoors - the display was very clear. It confirmed I don't have a gas leak, so was worth the money for me. Unless you will be using it regularly I would recommend removing the batteries while it is being stored, just in case they leak. It came with 3 AAA Duracell batteries and I have had that brand leak in the past. (I generally prefer Energizer for this reason). You unscrew the battery compartment with a small Philips screwdriver. The instructions, I would guess, have been translated into English from another language and this had been done quite well. There is no difficulty understanding them and I found some of the phrasing quite amusing (though this could just be my weird brain).

Werkt goed. 3 niveau van meting. Test hem wel altijd even met gas. Van aansteker of gasfles oid. Weet je in iedergeval zeker dat hij werkt.
