Having bought the Chinese Junk model by Artesania Latina, I thought this may come in handy. It did.After using it for a while it does hurt the hand.I recommed you wear gloves while using this.Overall, it does the job. Bending the planks for your ships. Very good.

I use this on occasion but thought I would use it a lot more. However, am worried that it bites into the wood too much. Best I find on damp wood.

Takes a bit of time to get used to this. If you have thick planks to bend, it can be tricky.

I purchased this bender while planking an Artesania Latina ship model kit (San Fransisco II). The planks are pretty thick and fragile, and after trying various methods (soaking in hot water, steaming, etc) I thought I'd try this as the principle of operation makes a lot of sense.Trouble is it doesn't work at all. You can either make the "cut" pretty shallow - and get no curvature - or risk a deeper cut - and cut the plank instead of scorching it.I put that aside as memento and went back into soaking and press-bending against a can of paint using clamps.
