I have very dark brown hair. In some light in can look close to black, in others it looks like a deep dark chocolate. I have a smattering of grey and began to dye my hair about eight hears ago. I discovered that Iam allergic to PPD (horrible blisters, rash and itching) in dark hair dye so I switched to Madison Reed and have struggled to 1) Find the right color of dark brown. I tried many and even went to one of their color studios. Unhappy with all of their shades. 2) Find a brown that did not turn orange as it faded. No luck. I tried every base type including neutral and every color faded to horrible orange. 3) Find a color that did not fade within the first few weeks. I have to wash daily because I do not like the feeling of unwashed hair and because I exercise hard every day, my hair feels very dirty if not washed that day. All of the Madison Reed colors faded quickly despite using shampoo and conditioner for colored hair. 4) Because of all the aforementioned issues, I found dying my hair to be a burden so I would extend the time between coloring and was unhappy with how my hair looked until I colored again. This shampoo has mostly solved my problems. I wash daily so saw results at four weeks. At six weeks the color looked fairly natural. Yes, in certain lighting conditions, the grey hair has a dark reddish hue, but again, still better than any of the red/orange hues in the dyes I was using. This shampoo allows me to easily maintain my color so my hair looks good every day. I have naturally shiny hair, so much so that throughout my life I've been asked how I make it so shiny. I always reply, "Daily washing". Dye dulled my shine and made my hair look flat in color. No dimension. This shampoo has allowed my hair to shine again. Best of all, no allergic reaction. I am vey happy that I found this product. Some things that could be improved: 1) I definitely need a deep conditioner. Light conditioner did not work. I could barely get a wide-tooth comb through my shoulder length hair. 2) Although it doesn't stain my hands (thankful) I noticed that my fingernails have slowly developed a slight tint that is clearly from the shampoo. 3) The smell is OK. Not unpleasant and not pleasant, just kind of odd for shampoo. None of the negatives would make me stop using this shampoo. I have it on auto-ship. I hope the company develops a formulation that gets hair a little darker. 10/16/2023 UPDATE*** I was disappointed to learn today that this product contains 1,2,4-Trihydroxybenzene which is a genotoxic compound. It was reveiwed by the EU consumer safety panel and they declined the use of it in hair dye and hair darkening shampoo due to health safety concerns. Also, tests in mice show that it significantly increases calcium concentrations in the thymus. As you can see in my above review, that I really liked this shampoo, but will discontinue use and cancel my subscription. Looks like it is back to the hair dyes that I didn't like, but all components are generally recognized as safe in the US and EU. Rats!

My hair color has nearly returned to what is was several years ago in a little over 4 weeks. Before using ModaModa black shampoo I was around 60% grey with the least color in the temples and serious streaking in thinning areas. Now, the graying in those areas are much less pronounced and getting darker. Since going gray my already coarse hair became quite woolly but this shampoo has reduced that condition as well. The fact that as long as you continue to use ModaModa there is no issue with grey roots to deal with makes this treatment much more appealing than chemical dyes. I cannot stress enough though you must give the product time to restore a deep color to your hair so hang in there and you won't be sorry. The applicator is designed to keep air from getting to the product, so there is a sealed bag inside - take care not to drop the bottle or impact the nozzle. Also, the product is fairly thin liquid, dark amber in color - I cup my hand to prevent spilling it through my fingers, this product to is precious to waste!

I used this because I wanted something to change my greys. This literally did exactly that, and I was intrigued by the fact it was also formulated to help with hair loss and growth….. LIES, lies Matilda! This was the scariest thing I have ever seen with my hair. I have never been one to suffer from mass hair loss in general. I started using this and after about a month my hair looked super healthy and shiny and greys were gone! However, after about two months of regular use my hair started coming out in clumps with every single wash. I washed my hair daily always have because I sweat so much and workout daily. The clump from the picture I showed was just the amount from one shampoo. I started to notice more and more coming out during the day too. And I went and got checked to see if I was in the hair loss stage of hair growth and I was not. I got was starting to thin out and have since stopped using it and went to different products and now am losing significantly less hair and have a bunch of short new growth that I didn’t need to have if I had never used this crap. Don’t use it it’s terrible.

I did not really expect this to work very well, so I did not take before pictures to share the effect. I was very pleasantly surprised how quickly I noticed my grey disappear. I used it every day in my first week and noticed that my heir was looking different. another week later I knew it was working so I happily continued. So much cheaper than professional coloring. Reason I did not give it 5 stars: although it claims to last a long time, it does not. I can skip the shampoo for a day or two but will need to pick it up after. Also, I used a different shampoo one time and a lot of the color got washed out. I could actually see a lot of grey in my hair just by using another shampoo once. This shampoo makes my hair darker than my usual shade, so I was trying to balance it. But clearly cannot. May be my hair type. Still, better than grey.
