Colour me converted!
I stumbled across this food while looking for a new food for our 10 month old Newfie. He was previously on Arden and Grange but had since got bored and wasn't really eating any more. I read up a lot about this company and from what I can see, it's a UK alternative to Orijen. I love their website and found it really professional and informative. The package arrived and it has great detail on the ingredients and their benefits and also a really detailed feeding guide. We did a water test with three different types of dog food. The arden grange, a Purina Beta and the Essential Food kibble. The water test is to see how much the food swells over a period of time. (1hr) Food swelling bloats the dog and makes it fuller for longer possibly resulting in the dog not getting the right amount of nutrition. We found that the Beta food had swollen the most, probably about 2 if not 3 times the size as it's original size and had also started to partially melt and break away. The Arden grange had swollen too but not as substantially as the Beta food. The essential food was definitely the winner as it had swollen but i'd say only approx 70%. This to me is a sign of a high quality dog food. The ingredients list is fantastic and at 28%, the protein content is quite good. Being picky, I'd have liked this a tad higher for a giant breed. However, their adult dog food is all in around the 30% so it's not a big deal.As for the taste, our fussy Newf is literally wolfing this down. At the minute I'm using it as treats until his other food is finished so I can wean him on to Essentials. He cannot get enough. It's great to see him excited about food again. Also, for this food, it seems I actually need to feed him a little less than other foods. That's a bonus!Overall, I'm super impressed with the food, the company, the packaging...everything. I can see us being a life long fan! Their adult food also offers a good variety of meat and fish based food so at least we can change it up now and again.

Fab puppy food
So far so good!My labrador puppy enjoys it very much and his pooh's are firm and brown. He does seems to be slightly calmer after switching to this as he was on working puppy food when we got him.Fantastic value when on subscribe and save for a good quality food. My pup has took a while to put on weight with it though so our vet advised upping the amount we fed him so maybe do more than the recommended portion size. Will update later on.Since the last review this has been no longer available which is annoying.

Great premium puppy food
Our 7 month old Rottweiler has been eating this for 3 months now and she is the picture of health. No digestive problems whatsoever and she has a healthy, glossy coat. She also loves the taste and it's gone within seconds of us putting the bowl down (not surprising given some of the things she eats but she does genuinely like it!)It's on the expensive side but portions are smaller than lesser brands that are full of filler so it doesn't work out too bad. When the time comes, I'm sure we'll transition our pooch onto one of the adult foods. Recommended.

Best dog food tested so far!
I have a one year old Rottweiler puppy and getting her stools solid has been a mission. But this has been a dream, not only does she love it, but she is all back to normal and been on it a few months now, might start Introducing her to the adult food in a few more months. Its a great food mix. Her coat is lovely and shiny. Awesome quality! And its British as well. Topstuff 5*

Essential Foods Dog Food The Beginning Large Breed 12.5 kg
What can I say, my dog loves this! Ingredients are second to none too! A bit pricey at £54 but what price to you put on your dog! He has this with extra mackrel or chicken just to give him an extra boost and as well as a little treat.

Essential for large breed puppies
This is great food for a large puppy. My Labrador had started with growing pains on his previous food and I was advised to switch to this high quality food especially formulated for the needs of fast growing large breed puppies. After a few weeks his growing pains subsided and he has the most incredible glossy coat. He loves every meal and is a much happier, carefree puppy now.
