EASY AND SIMPLE to Install
I literally bought the Logitech camera and the pro recommended by them couldn’t even install it. I needed a camera that was compatible with Apple HomeKit and I decided to trust in this and it got delivered that same day. The pros left and I’m literally no pro at all but I’m able to install this all on my own. I love, love, LOVE the camera quality, durability, and the speed of its connection. The chime is really loud so we’re able to hear it. The night vision is also great, which is what we needed to see our cars parked up front. I love the security. I do have a popcorn background so I wasn’t able to use the adhesive, however, the plastic screw anchors really helped as it let it hang off the wall a little bit (meaning hammered it in and screwed the backboard in until it was touching the popcorn walls and laying somewhat flat and straight), meaning it didn’t go all the way in and I used white caulk to seal it as I was afraid of water getting in. It works with popcorn walls using this method. I also really appreciate that the chime doesn’t need to be hooked onto anything! No wiring required! Only gotta plug it into an outlet and you’re good to go! I recommend this for anyone that doesn’t fare well with wiring as this camera and chime both don’t need or require wires (no electrical work needed) and it’s wireless. The connection to the Apple HomeKit was fast and simple! EDIT: After using this for a while, the only downside I’ve noticed is that it sometimes disconnects and takes a while to connect usually within minutes but the longest it’s ever gone while disconnecting from my Apple HomeKit is around an hour to an hour and a half, but whiles it rare, it does still happen. Overall, I STILL do RECOMMEND it!

Works with Homekit, Poor Network Connectivity, Poor Build Quality
Update (6/19/25): ============== I have opted to downgrade my rating. Although HomeKit integration was fairly straightforward, I never was able to get the doorbell to bind to the Aqara app. The app is necessary for firmware upgrades and to access more advanced features than are available through Apple Home. I spent a full day trying to get this to work. I disabled 5 GHz (which is not supported), removed special characters from my WiFi password (which also isn't supported), turned off regional threat mitigation (the app phones home to China), and reset the doorbell countless times, making various tweaks to my network along the way. I never got the doorbell to bind with the Aqara app. Its network support is just not robust. This, combined with the device's poor build quality (as mentioned in my original review), earns the Aqara G4 a 1-star review. ===== Original Review ===== I was looking for a doorbell with Apple HomeKit support, including secure video, and this was one of just a few available options. The device connected to my HomePod easily. (I did have to key in a 6 digit code because the QR code was not detected.) The device refused to “bind”; this may hame something to do with my WiFi security settings and may affect use with the Aqara app, but does not seem to affect operation with HomeKit. The unit picks up power from my existing doorbell wiring but does not activate my old chime. Instead, the sound comes through the Aqara base and my HomePod. The video quality is fine. The jury is still out on the AI features, such as facial recognition and package detection. The intercom feature works as expected. My main complaint is with the build quality. It looks okay but is made of cheap plastic, and the screws don’t go into the plastic easily. I was able to mount it securely, but the screws aren’t as straight as I would like. Overall, I’m reasonably pleased with the purchase, and I’ve bought another unit for my back door.

HomeKit enabled and easy to set up. Battery life not good, use hard wire power.
I really like this doorbell to be honest. I cannot give it 5 stars because the SIX AA batteries lasted only 48 hours. This caused me to go do some additional research and it seems I'm not the only one with this issue. The way I dealt with it without returning these was to run a 24vac adapter from the wall outlet to the doorbell and that has worked very well. Unfortunately I don't have existing wiring (at least working wires) at this house and I'm not going to pay a bunch to instal it. But running the adapter wire worked well for me. So with that major caveat I will continue with everything I love about the doorbell. HomeKit compatibility is a must for us as we run a smart home with 80+ devices. We have 17 cameras and have tried lots of types from Blink to Eufy and some other hardwired older ones as well. I have been trying to slowly move toward only HomeKit enabled cameras for a while now, and Aqara is a brand I really appreciate. I have their door locks on both our exterior doors, and the G5 outside camera as well. The doorbells (aside from power issues) are fantastic additions to our camera collection and replaced the Blink doorbells we had previously. I will say, I never changed the two AA Blink doorbell camera batteries over the years, and they were detecting motion and recording all the time. So I'm not sure why Aqara's 6 AA batteries couldn't keep up. But I do appreciate that they sent those 6 batteries in the box, that was a nice gesture. The video is of good quality, and looks good both night and day. The tamper alarm works perfectly, I set it off myself when trying to adjust the mount. Aqara's in app functions are helpful, though I prefer to use HomeKit for most of my interactions. From that perspective, the Aqara doorbells are definitely an upgrade from Blink, which for some reason refuses to integrate with HomeKit or Matter in general. Good on Aqara for prioritizing that, and I will be getting more cameras from Aqara in the future. Lastly, a small hint for Aqara. I got two of these, one for the front door and one for the back door. The fact that you can only pair the doorbell with the chime unit that it ships with is a little bit sad. I would have liked to have paired both doorbells with one of the chime units so I didn't have to run and power two chime units for the same home. But that is a minor complaint. It doesn't matter a whole lot other than having to power two of them at the same time, but it really does seem unnecessary given that I'm running the chimes though the HomePods all over our house anyway.

Great HomeKit Video Doorbell
I recently replaced my Wemo Video Doorbells with this Aqara G4. I could not be more pleased with the upgrade. This review is written after three weeks of continuous use. I have generally found that Aqara devices just work without hassle, hang-up, or mishap out of the box. The G4 Video Doorbell was no different. Wired installation was a breeze (and having batteries installed as a backup is a bonus). The video quality is excellent. Homekit limits you to 1080 but somehow the picture looks obviously more detailed and superior to our prior doorbell cameras. I'd also add that both within Homekit and Aqara's App, the "load" time for real time video is much quicker compared with the Wemo's as well as our Eufy indoor cameras. That's super handy when responding to alerts or doorbells. I wasn't sure about the internal chime, but after using it a bit I can say they are great. Easy install of a microSD allows you to keep extended recordings locally (Homekit secure video stores video for 7 days). Because the chimes are installed indoors they are not at risk for being stolen. It's easy to assign different chimes to each doorbell so that we always know which doorbell is ringing. We're an Apple Homekit home and integration is flawless. Connectivity has been outstanding and we've not lost connection once still installation - my Wemo's would drop at least once a week. Finally, I want to acknowledge that Aqara cleverly safeguarded the security screw that must be loosened in order to change the batteries (not that I will do that often given our wired configuration) - I dropped that screw on my Wemo's on multiple occasions and it was a real nuisance to find it again. All in all, the Aqara G4 Video Doorbell delivers excellent performance, a great picture, and outstanding integration with Homekit.

Almost perfect
I got this to replace an absolute piece of junk *coughEUFYcough* My old video doorbell never detected anything: cars, packages, visitors, and when people rang the doorbell, I could not communicate with them via the intercom, unless I was in the house, which kind of defeats the purpose of a smart doorbell. Then finally, I couldn't even communicate that way. This is very easily installed, and can be placed anywhere since it's battery powered. However, I wired it for power so I could get all the features functioning. Pro tip: if you do not have a micro SD card installed in the device, you will not get access to functions such as Face ID and clip recording. It will just work in HomeKit as a continuous recorder without the ability to save clips. You have to have a micro SD card. Video quality, both daytime and nighttime is fantastic. Detection of visitors, cars, and packages is very accurate. Doorbell chime is not grating. My only knock against the device is the lack of ability to change the vertical tilt. it comes with a horizontal wedge and a flat install plate. However, there is no option to angle the camera up i.e.: put a small wedge at the bottom of the doorbell body. This is important, because if someone is standing very close to the door, say less than a foot away, the wide angle lens is unable to capture the persons face. I am 5 foot 11, and if I stand within less than an arms reach of the doorbell, the image only captures below my chin. Yes of course you can rewind the video to see me walking up the porch, but that's not my complaint. First world problem, I know. However, I was able to correct this with a piece of trim that I sanded down to a wedge and adhered with wood glue. Problem solved. Overall, this is a 10 out of 10 device for HomeKit users.

7 month Updated review
As someone who likes things organized, I wanted the same for my online system. Since my house is Apple, we wanted a doorbell that was integrated into that echo system ... Hence why we went with the Aqara, which at the time was more money than most of the comparable Ring doorbell cameras. We are using this on a Condo, and for some odd reason the builder decided to place the wired doorbell way off to the side, making it forgotten and never pushed. It also gave us no location to use this Doorbell hard wired. The unit comes with a mounting plate that has some adhesive to mount this on the siding. And that is exactly what we did. Prepped the area with Alcohol and mounted it right next to the door, looked great. Linking this to your HomeKit isnt hard, but does require using Aqara app at first. I found a few videos online that explained "optimal" set up for battery powered installation. Sadly this recommended Turing of many of the cameras features. We set up the unit keeping all the features turned on, put in the SIX double AA batteries and were all set...we thought. Within 72 hours the camera was dead! I had no choice but to use the suggested settings which disables. most of the doorbell features to get a longer battery life. Put in another SIX AA batteries and was all set. .... we thought. About 4 days later the camera was dead. So I took down the camera removed the SIX AA batteries and replaced them with some rechargeable batteries. I then went back into the Aqara settings and had to disable even more features, basically making the a doorbell with a camera that will turn on to late to capture anyone who rings it. This now gives us one month of use before needing a charge. The batteries cost for 16 AA batteries is almost half the cost of the doorbell add a charger and you are about there. As others have stated the cameras view is not low enough so you cant see any packages or deliveries left at your door. Today being 10 months I came home from the store to see the Camera half attached to the siding. Not like someone wanted to steal it...which they could easily do since to have a longer life we had to turn off all motion functions. The adhesive was just failing. I decided to leave a review now, because with all the issues I am back looking for a HomeKit doorbell camera that can actually work well, using all the features on battery power, or can at least fit in a door mount. This camera is too large to fit in any door mount option.

Disappointing
This is an updated review after more than a year with the Aqara Video Doorbell G4. I continue to be disappointed by the performance of the doorbell and find that it's mostly unreliable. After exhausting every troubleshooting step possible, I've determined it just does not work or does not work with Apple Home. The two biggest issues are: 1) It constantly disconnects from Apple Home, requiring that I pull out the batteries to re-power the device. That sometimes solves the issue, sometimes does not. 2) The battery indicator is useless. It shows 100% all the time, regardless of what type of batteries are used. When I use the rechargeable batteries recommended by Aqara, it's always showing 100%. Note that the WiFi connection is good where the doorbell is installed and a WiFi connected light switch in nearly the exact same location never has connection issues. The Good ------------ Setup was relatively easy, once I figured out exactly how to slide off the back cover to insert batteries. Connecting to WiFi was much easier than most smart home devices, in part due to the HomeKit integration. I have found most of the advertised features are present and again easier to access than other smart devices I have used. The camera is very decent in the "auto" mode. I have not yet compared 1080p to 780p and can only assume auto defaults to the lower standard. When it is working, I love the HomeKit functionality and easy by which I can see my front door. The Not So Good -------------------- The manual and support information is very, very brief. Many questions are not answered anywhere to my knowledge or are hard to track down. The process of determining remaining battery life, an essential measurement in my view, is much harder than needed (You have to go to the device settings in IOS Home app to see battery levels). Since the battery almost always shows at 100% however, it really doesn't matter! The Bad -------------- As already reviewed elsewhere, the device seems to disconnect from WiFi or otherwise become unreachable for no reason. At least 3x now I have had to either reboot the Chime/hub or, most recently, completely reset it (and re-setup the doorbell in HomeKit). I also have found the notifications to be inconsistent so far, although I need more time to test.

Buena mirilla/camara digital
