I have an English Cocker Spaniel, 14 1/4” tall at the shoulder and about 27 lb. I bought this onesie as an outdoor coat to run him in the field and not have to spend hours afterward brushing out burrs and sticks and bathing off the mud. The fit was surprisingly good. It is a bit loose in the belly area, but my boy does have a tuck up so I think this probably can’t be helped without custom coats for different breeds. The stretch is excellent, so it wasn’t too difficult to get on him. I have a similar coat made for outdoor use on my other dog, and his is less stretchy and thus much more difficult to get the back legs into. Once the coat was a little wet, it sagged a bit in the upper legs, but that didn’t affect the protection nor his comfort level. He ran in it just like he does without a coat. It didn’t restrict his movement at all and it didn’t cause any discomfort. His coat was protected well from sticks and burrs, and the coat didn’t get snagged or damaged in any way. Although I didn’t use it in the exact way intended, I did notice that when I took it off there was hair on the inside, which doesn’t happen with my other coat, so I believe it likely works well as a shed defender too. I would recommend this coat.

we bought this for our german shepherd more because she had a wound on her elbow that needed healing than for shedding. overall it worked great, her wound healed perfectly without the need for a cone and we enjoyed having less fur around the house. Pro's and Con's down below. Pros: - the material is cool to the touch so we weren't concerned about overheating. although i wouldn't recommend leaving your dog on with this for extended periods of time in the heat - it certainly reduces the amount of shedding, but all that hair is collected within the onesie, so you will need to periodically need to remove it from your dog and clean it. we removed the big chunks of hair then threw it in the washer/dryer. Cons: - for us we went by the weight description, but it seemed pretty tight...so we unhooked the rear legs and just tied them off. not sure if this is our fault or if the sizing doesnt match the weight. i might recommend going up size if your dog is within 3-4 lbs of a different sizing. overall good, product....would recommend

Hey fellow pet parents! Wanted to share my experience with the Shed Defender dog suit, a purchase driven by my battle against pet fur at home. This review is about my second attempt; my first go didn’t quite hit the mark size-wise even though I followed the size chart. That was a minor hiccup, though, and I quickly purchased a large before I even got the first one sent back. I had a big surprise birthday party for my husband planned and I didn’t want to have my guests drowning in dog hair. When the replacement arrived just in the nick of time, my excitement was palpable. I needed this asap because the party was the next day. But right out of the packaging, it was clear this ‘new’ suit had seen better days - seams and strings hanging loose as if it already had a story to tell. Did I get a used one? Or was this one made by a child just learning how to sew? Despite its less-than-pristine condition, necessity trumped aesthetics, and I put it to use, hopeful it would be the fur-fighting hero I needed. And though my dog didn’t love it, it did its job for the most part. The real disappointment set in post its first wash. My dog escaped out before we got to unzip and she ended up peeing in it. I knew this was already in poor shape and was nervous washing even though some reviews said it washed well. Though it went in alone and on gentle cycle, it nonetheless emerged with a hole, a new badge of its fragile existence. My video captures its initial state for anyone curious about what to expect straight out of the packaging. While the idea behind this dog suit is nothing short of brilliant for those of us dealing with excessive shedding, the reality fell short. The quality and durability just don’t match up to the hefty price tag. I’m almost convinced I could craft something similar with a little effort and it would still fit much better than the large did. Again the sizing is so confusing. Still, I’m on the lookout for a worthy solution to the fur dilemma. I pray someone else starts to make something similar that is worth my money and praise. For those considering this suit, proceed with cautious optimism. It’s a fantastic concept that, unfortunately, suffers in execution. Here’s hoping for a sturdier, more reliable version in the future!

There aren't a lot of reviews of this product RE its use in cats so I thought I would leave my 2 cents. We got the Shed Defender on the suggestion of our vet to try to help our cat avoid overgrooming and creating hot spots. Our cat's preferred licking areas are her butt and the inside and outside of her rear legs, which means that the usual surgical recovery suits do not cover the correct areas. We have tried many other things (various surgical cones-- she is like Gumbi and can still somehow reach everything, antidepressants, steroids, antibiotics, an allergen-free diet, various ointments and creams, etc.-- any other suggestions please comment!!) prior to the suit. The cat in question is a medium-sized female cat, about 9 lbs or so. We first tried the size XXS (for 8-12 lbs), and while this fit, it was very snug-- to the point that she felt immobilized and did not want to move around with the suit on. So we sent that back and tried the size XS (12-18 lbs). The fit on this was better. It was still snug but not suffocatingly tight. The suit is made out of very stretchy lycra type-material. You can trim the legs if they are too long. The zipper will stay open to wherever you unzip it. However, even with the larger suit on she was still reluctant to make any kind of large movements-- stepping up or jumping onto or over things. Unfortunately this also included stepping up into the litterbox, so several pee accidents occurred. We experimented with unzipping the suit to varying degrees and even taking her back legs out of the suit... but she would either accidentally pee on it or it gave her enough access that she could still get at frequently-licked areas. The suit does wash well, btw. I both hand washed it and put it in the washing machine in a delicates bag and let it air dry. I think in order for this to work for our purposes we would basically have to be home all day and take her out of the suit several times a day for potty breaks. So my conclusion for use in cats is: 1) due to the peculiarities of feline anatomy, order a size up from your cat's actual weight, and 2) if your cat is neurotic enough to need this suit because of overgrooming then he or she will probably also be too neurotic to tolerate wearing it. If you think it might work, it's probably worth trying out, since returns are free and you will likely know right away if your cat will be willing to wear it. If nothing else, you will be amused by seeing your cat dressed up in skin-tight lycra like he or she is in an 80's aerobicize video. P.S. I am also baffled by why this suit is so shockingly expensive.

Seems to be a great product but unfortunately my dog weighs 40 lbs so I went with size L that starts at 40 lbs - it was too big and since I had already put in my dog and gotten rid of the package , I didn’t feel good about returning a used item. The other one I ordered for my smaller dog who weighs 8 lbs was too small and the wt limit was 8-11 lbs - so I guess it’s not only the wt but the dogs body you need to take into consideration when ordering

I was unsure of what to expect from this item, however after a ringworm exposure of our entire house I was desperate. After having to shave our Great Pyrenees down to his skin, he was licking lesions we were trying to treat. I thought this might do the trick for most of the areas of concern and perhaps even contain some of fungus inside the suit. When I opened the package at first I noticed that the material is stretchy and thicker than I would have imagined. It’s a spandex type material. I got the largest size good for 85lbs and up. My pup is 113lbs. He just fits. It’s snug which is ok. I can’t imagine it would accommodate much more than 120lbs. The long zipper that runs from the rear to the chest is easily opened for bathroom breaks. Fur will be easily laundered from this fabric. It will also dry quick as well. I will continue to use it as a “base layer” until our dog is no longer considered contagious and when his fur adequately grows in to keep him warmer. For now he’s basically naked from the neck down. But I digress.. The stitching and zipper seems like it has some initial quality to it. I’m unsure if this fabric will “run” or how easy it will be to get a hole in it. Time will tell. It was thicker than I expected which I was happy about. I would use this in the future for its intended purposes as my dog sheds like you can’t imagine. I would use it for long car rides to keep the black interior if my car from getting so much fur stuck in it. It would also be useful for a wet dog keeping fur in place when damp, wet and sandy from a day at the lake or ocean. Initially I am happy. Still a little pricy, but if I can get multiple uses/years out of it I think it will be worth the higher price. Time will tell as I just received this item.

My vet recommended I purchase a suit after my puppy had to have knee surgery to prevent him from licking the incision. It sort of did the job in that he couldn’t access the incision and lick it, but the internal stitching was pretty thick and connected the arms/legs to the body in a weird way, resulting in him developing a raw spot on each front leg, which I now can’t get him to stop licking. Additionally, these suits don’t stay in place well; they bunch up and migrate in weird ways that made it hard for my dog to walk and move around. This also made it difficult to zip and unzip the suit. The zipper was, in my opinion, very low quality and always felt like it was on the verge of breaking or catching the fabric. I also don’t think placing it underneath was the best design choice—it made bathroom breaks more difficult and getting my dog in and out of the suit was like wrestling an octopus. I also wanted to note that the product fit my dog very poorly in general. He’s a pit bull mix and a puppy, so he’s barrel-chested in the front and pretty skinny in the back. The suit was really tight around his chest but was super baggy through the stomach/legs, which created many issues as he would get tangled up in the legs and the suit would shift around a lot. It was also hard to keep the suit out of the way during bathroom breaks, and it got splashed several times and peed directly into once (and the urine wicked itself all the way to the front legs when this happened). Overall, this product wasn’t very useful or well-made and definitely wasn’t worth $55. A $5 pair of Target leggings worked much better.
