King of a Land

The title track “King of a Land” is a beautiful piece of music and Cat Stevens just gets better.

As a fan of Cat Stevens since the early 70's I was really looking forward to this albums release.On first listen I was not disappointed.Its a beautiful mix of gentle ballad type songs with a few 'edgier' songs thrown into the mix.The result is somewhat similar to his old format so evident in the Firecat and Tillerman albums.Although I think this album is not as good(what could be?) as them it is still a worthy addition to the Cat/Yusuf album collection.For me 'Son of Mary' is the standout track..simply beautiful and very similar in creation to his earlier work on the classic Firecat album.All other tracks are strong too..there is no duff track here.Yes the album is somewhat spiritual in its message but that is no bad thing.Cat in the old days always had spiritually themed songs but on this album its a bit more prevalent.An album that seems to get better with each listen..Highly recommended!

Good to have a new cd by Cat Stevens

If you like Cat/Yusef you wont be disappointed and like all his recordings it sounds great.

A beautifully created album of both music and art. The music is not the old 'Cat Stevens' style of the 70's but is now set in the more religious mode of Yusuf. That said, it's very good, a wide variety of styles and moods. The songs are certainly easy to listen to and very memorable. The musicians playing along with Yusuf are excellent. The production of the sound is wonderful.I purchased the vinyl and I have to say that the presentation is amazing. The accompanying booklet is beautifully illustrated and laid out. This is why vinyl is so brilliant, you can listen to the music while holding the large album cover and reading the words to the songs, looking at the artwork and getting lost in the music. It's certainly an album by Yusuf, rather than Cat Stevens, but the magic is there and it's very beautiful to listen to.

I have been a fan of Cat/Yusuf for a long time, so I am a bit biased but I have really enjoyed this album. His voice and writing are still very good and I thought he produced the best performance at Glastonbury this year. Long may he continue.

First things first .. this is not a "Cat Stevens" album, this is most definitely a "Yusuf" album .. The songs are all heavy with religious symbolism, some obvious, some not so obvious. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with Cat/Yusuf expressing his view of things in song .. all I am saying is if you're looking for another "Moonshadow", "Rubylove" or "Wild World" you're going to be disappointed. The voice is still there, maybe a bit ragged with age (aren't we all) and instrumentally the album is excellent, there is even a rather clever use of Tchaikovsky on one track! Summary, its a good and enjoyable album , a worthy addition to the Yusuf/Cat Stevens catalogue, just dont expect another "Teaser" or "Tillerman" ...

My God. Music rarely gets this good.

Leider kam die erste LP mit verknitterten Ecken am Cover und einem höhen Schlag im Vinyl daher. Die Reklamation der defekten LP wurde durch eine neu Lieferung am Folgetag ersetzt. Das Cover war diesmal unbeschädigt und intakt. Leider wies die LP erneut einen höhen Schlag auf der jedoch nicht so massiv war wie bei der ersten Lieferung.Insgesamt ist die Musik der LP für mich an das Album Numbers erinnert, das damals sehr Märchenhaft daher kam. Die Stücke sind keine wirklichen Ohrwürmer aber vom Musikstiel und Arrangement so wie man sie von Cat Stevens aus den 70ern kannte. Das Cover ist liebevoll und mit toller Haptik gestalltet. In der Mitte des aufklappbaren Hülle ist ein Booklet eingeklebt in dem kleine Geschichten, die Liedtexte sowie passende Zeichnungen zum jeweiligen Musiktitel gibt. Die Zeichnungen wurden künstlerisch von Cat Stevens gestaltet. Ingesamt eine schön gestaltete LP und bei jedem hören werden die Musikstücke schöner und interessanter.
