Track clamp comparisons
Took a risk and got these for my Evolution guide rails/tracks even though there's currently no other reviews here. The clamps that come with the Evo's are absolutely awful. Tighten them to anything and they leave a massive screw dent because some big brain genius thought it would be a great idea to have a screw stick out of the clamp part that connects with the surface (see photos). Then i got the Triton clamps, seemed like a decent upgrade, but the thin handles can occasionally hurt your hands when you need to do them extra tight, and then a handle broke because it's just thin plastic. Another genius design. So then it was the Bessey clamps. These can also double as normal clamps by taking the top off and rotating it, and they're good clamps (finally), but for my woodwork which often includes highly sanded surfaces, the red rubber face is a little small and hard, so it leaves small marks on the wood. Nothing major at all, but i don't need even more sanding work.So FINALLY i got these Trend clamps because they have large and completely flat rubber faces on them. No more marks. The clamps themselves are the most substantial out of this bunch. The build quality is the best. The metal is the thickest. The way they feel when you tighten them just feels better quality and smoother. The handles are considerably thicker than the other clamps, so they're also the most comfortable. They do not hurt your hands no matter how tight you squeeze them. These clamps perform excellent. So why am i giving them 4 stars? Well they're quite pricey, which is expected, but most of all the first pair i received had one with a bent top bar, so it wouldn't slide into the track. My second pair are also slightly bent but not enough to affect the use in any way. Of course they can be bent into shape with a vice but i'm not risking weakening the welding. Overall they're very good track clamps, not a pain to use like so many others, and i can see them lasting many years.
