Very sturdy and robust DIY kit.

If you liked Lego as a kid (or even if you're still a kid) this stuff is amazing! Most hardware stores' building supplies are usually quite large and unwieldy. When you want to build something small there aren't many good options. This is where MakerBeam comes in handy. It's simple, small, and strong. The possibilities are endless. Whether it's a small bracket to support something, or a larger structure, MakerBeam is up to the challenge. Making things has become a bit of a lost art in today's abundance of disposable consumer products. I find it very fulfilling to make things and be able to do it easily. I often would resort to using Lego, or Erector, but they aren't able to handle heavier structural loads. The aluminum and stainless steel brackets are very good quality. Although it's so much fun, it's not a disposable toy. It's the real deal. Go for it, you will be very pleased with MakerBeam! Update April 2022: Still loving these kits. I've continued to grow my collection of Makerbeam and have built multiple computer cases, structural supports for various electronics, and even stands for microphones. Highly recommend!!!

I am very impressed with this 10x10mm aluminum T slot framing set. Its very versatile and relatively easy to use. Some fiddling around is required until you get the hang of it. But that’s to be expected when working with beams and bolts that small. That’s nothing against MakerBeam, just something you have to get used too. In the week or so i have had it, i have made 2 things already with plenty of beams to spare for more projects. I have added pictures of a solder/wire rack i made and a rolling cutter for film and photographic paper. The few things i can ding MakerBeam on are things that really should have been included in the starter kit. I have placed links to the items that a new user should definitely pick up, but again they really should have been included. Once you unwrap all of the beams, you need a degree in Tetris to get it close again. Im pretty good at Tetris and i couldn’t do it so everything went into a plastic box. Much better way to store it if you ask me. A few things to note, the ends of the beams are a little sharp. They look slightly de-burred but not enough to take the sharp edge off. They really should have included the vinyl end caps or the corner cubes. It’s a small thing but it would have been nice. The ends of the beams are threaded which is great. But there is no real way to get them to align. See the picks of the solder/wire holder. None of the horizontal arms could possibly line up with the vertical ones. Its more of a good place to attach things too but not really useful if you need the beams to line up. I didn’t so its not a problem. They also don't include an Allen key for the 3mm bolts. But if you buy the T nuts or the bearing kit, its included. The MakerBeam Bearings, bolts and (self locking) nuts (pack of 10) is a pretty neat way to add rolling capability to the Beams. It works really well and I'm happy with it on my rolling cutter design. Another thing to note is that MakerBeam offers the beams separately here on Amazon. I found sizes up to MakerBeam 1500mm beam black anodised (pack of 2) , which is pretty neat! I can think of a few projects that could use beams that size. Plus the price is pretty good for those. All in all i am very happy with the purchase. While the kit is pretty expensive, i cant think of another way to accomplish what i need without it.
