Lipper International Acacia Square with Cork Coasters and Caddy, 7-Piece Set

I purchased the Lipper International Coasters, Acacia, Set of 6, in 2013. Pros: The item arrived in tip top condition and in a timely manner. I bought the item as a gift for my father, he really loved it. The coasters are beautiful, durable, made of quality wood, quality made, and water resistant - all things that matter to my father. It definitely pleased him! Cons: None. I recommend this item as a gift.

I like the looks of these coasters, they are also a good size. On the flip side what kept me from giving it 5 stars was because these things lose their finish from being used, i.e., they don't like being used as coasters. The wife thinks maybe they need occasional upkeep with some kind of oil. Perhaps someone out there has an answer?

These are neat coasters made of inlaid bamboo that will prevent your glassware from "sweating" or burning your furniture. They are durable but seem to fade a little bit after some use but they are practical and attractive enough to use on your best furniture. The holder is handy to store them.

This fit in just right with my formal living and dining rooms. I like the style it brings to the table so you don't have to put them away until needed. I found the inner circle to be smaller than some of the mugs (coffee) I use however I just flip the coaster over to the opposite side. They are well made and well used so as to not stain the wood furniture. Great buy!

Its so, so pretty! I purchased it with the Benson Mills Illusions Geometric shapes Woven Vinyl Placemats, Taupe, Set of 4 . They go very well together, almost looks part of a set. Shucks, but after hosting my first dinner party with the above items, after the FIRST use, the plastic laminate already bubbled up from some of the coasters. I still rate it three stars based on how pretty it is, and priced well at 16.57 with free shipping and being solid wood. Note that all the coasters are pieced together differently. Some have larger segments than the pictured item. I prefer the smaller patterning and higher contrast between light/dark wood so my favorite pieces sit at the top. Its a fair product. Not luxury, but looks nice, does the job of protecting the table. It's more of an accessory than anything anyway. I also wanted to note: The same night, I served dinner with my favortite, very FAT glasses that hold a ton of liquid... Well all that extra surface area created a very strong suction effect that carried the heavy piece of wood all the way up to drink--sometimes making its way back down to the table-- other times sliding off and falling onto the diner's lap OR plate full of tacos. We had a lot of laughs because of it, in fact, we were busting our guts because of it. It was a great time, for us, being in our twenty-somethings and not giving a damn about proper table etiquette. But gosh I could only IMAGINE how mortified a more "refined" dinner host and group of guests may have been. No decrease in star rating there because my fat-bottomed cups would have done that to any solid coaster. Bottles, regular glasses, cans don't have any problems with sticking. Beer steins insulate well so don't stick since they have little to no condensation.

I like that they are a good quality wood coaster. The finish is nice and they look like they will last. Might not be the best coaster if you live somewhere humid and your drink tends to sweat a lot as there is not much area to catch liquid. Here in the desert they will be fine to keep rings off the furinture.

I purchased these coasters to replace an old set of wooden coasters that worked great, but after nearly a year were worn out and starting to crack. These Lipper wooden coasters were chosen based primarily on the look. Aesthetically, they're beautiful, but in practical use, they are terrible. First, the coaster is so shallow that it will not catch any of the water that typically beads up on a glass filled with a cold drink. After your glass has been sitting for a few minutes the condensation will have dribbled down the side of your glass, onto the coaster, where it will run right across the incredibly thin trench encircling the interior of the coaster where it will then spill all across whatever surface it is sitting on. Even worse, though I didn't probe too deeply, after casual observation of the coaster, it appears that in addition to the condensation run-off, water was actually penetrating through the coaster to the surface of the table beneath. Massive failure. Like a car with rectangular wheels. I will say this, if you intend to drink hot beverages, these coaster might work out fine. But as hot drinks don't generate condensation, I'm not sure what purpose the coaster would have in that application. If you intend to use these for cold drinks, save your money as these fail to perform their intended design. Even worse, one of the six wooden coasters split apart and ended up like someone had cut out a slice as you would a pie (probably due to the water seeping completely through it). And keep in mind, this cracked coaster happened within the first six weeks of use. These wooden coasters now sit unused in a corner on my kitchen counter as they've been replaced with a very nice set of stainless steel coasters purchased on Amazon. Jury is still out on the fate of the the wooden Lipper coasters. They will at some point either find a use as a hot beverage holder, or they'll find their way into the garbage.
