A lovely time piece.
You can pay thousands for an automatic. I have a Tag Heuer SEL I bought years ago, I almost bought a Rolex Submariner but decided to wait... wish I'd bought it now as such funds are no longer at my disposal!I've been looking for a 'reasonably priced' automatic for a few months. I narrowed down the choices to the Citizen NY0040-09E or the Seiko SKX007K, weighing up the pros and cons of each. Eventually I decided on the NY0040-09E as I preferred the look of the dial and I like the crown being at the 8 o'clock position as the conventional position (at 3 o'clock), can lead to the crown digging into your wrist/hand.The watch keeps good time, it can gain/lose seconds each day. There is a way you can lie the watch down and leave it over night to either speed up or decrease the speed. I found that out on a website somewhere but have lost the link now sorry! Just google it.The Bezel is unidirectional (it only turns one way), and turns without any resistance. Some may not like that, they may want a little more resistance but I'm happy with it. For those unaware, a 'unidirectional bezel' is used when diving to keep an eye on dive time. It is unidirectional to ensure that if you knock the bezel and it turns (whilst diving), all that will happen is it will 'appear' that you have less 'air time' left than you actually do have. So you'll surface with enough air in your tank. The dial is a deep black which I like. If I were to pick a negative of the dial it would be that the chrome surrounding the lume at each hour position is a bit too shiny for my liking but that's a personal thing. The rubber strap lends a certain rugged, work like quality to the time piece. I like that but it's also a slight negative (again, this is a personal view). It's such a beautiful dial that I feel it deserves something a little more flattering. Having searched the internet I found some photos of the NY0040-09E on a stainless steel bracelet. I later found out that the bracelet was an original made by citizen (model number 59-J0609), but only supplied to certain countries. The bracelet is brushed stainless steel, has a lockable clasp and has an extending ratchet (this is used when attaching the watch to your wrist with a wetsuit on). I immediately knew that was the bracelet I wanted my citizen automatic on (see link below for a photo of the watch on the original bracelet. Hopefully amazon will allow the link). I think you'll agree, the bracelet looks great in either a sports setting or business. However, trying to obtain the bracelet led me a merry dance! I decided the best bet would be to contact Citizen UK to try and source the bracelet. They informed me that unfortunately the bracelet was no longer available as it was discontinued! They did suggest a different bracelet that would fit but I didn't like the look of it, it didn't have the ratchet and it didn't bear any resemblance to the original 59-J0609. Disheartened, I decided to have a look around for similar looking bracelet. There are a few bracelets available but the rounded end links need to be right for the bracelet to fit with the watch. Eventually however, I found a watch strap dealer on ebay, based in California, selling the 59-J0609! Being as this was ebay I was worried that perhaps it could be a rip-off or such (not that I could really see anyone bothering to rip-off a Citizen watch strap!). So I got back onto Citizen UK. They then informed me that the bracelet may well be available in the US and... if I wanted to purchase one, they could source one from their Far East suppliers! So I went from being informed that the bracelet was discontinued and therefore no longer available, to we can get you one! The issue then however was time. They couldn't get one from the Far East until August! So I decided to purchase from the Californian dealer. The cost is around £35. Not a price a really wanted to pay for a watch strap but it's almost exactly the same price I was quoted for the suggested 'alternative' bracelet so I convinced myself to go for it. I have literally just made payment for it so it won't be here for a while.Anyway, that's all from me. I hope some of what I have had to say helps others make a decision on purchasing either way. I can't wait to get the stainless steel bracelet on mine! :)All the best watch fans.http://i49.tinypic.com/20k3m2v.jpg

Great value automatic diver's watch from Citizen
I received this watch probably 6 weeks ago and haven't taken it off!It was supplied in a round presentation case inside a box. The watch is very attractive looking the bezel and case are nice and shiny, the strap is a black sporty rubber one with a Citizen buckle. The dial is very legible, the markers are unmistakable, as are the also luminous hands. Love the bubble on the seconds hand! The day/date is white script on a black background, with Sunday in red. It also has dual Spanish days. The bezel makes a reassuring clicking and is uni directional. It can get easily knocked so if used for dives, be aware. Suspect serious diver's would have a dive computer anyway. The strap is really comfortable and looks really good on this watch. I was going to replace it with a NATO strap, but have been won over. I've got a Citizen Ecozilla watch which is much bigger and thicker than this, however it's strap is very uncomfortable. The accuracy seems pretty spot on, not had to adjust so far. Also like that the crown is screw down for added protection. The watch is rated to 200m which more than enough protection.Overall the watch looks fantastic on the wrist, smart or dressed down. The movement is not as smooth as a Rolex or Omega but it's probably more likely to be my "beater" rather than a prestigious make as it's fantastically wearable. I think it's great value and looks very smart, get plenty of comments about it.

only recently purchased
I bought the citizens 200m divers watch because I had always wanted a diver style watch, even though I don't dive. I had looked at Omega Seamaster but felt I couldn't justify paying all that money for a watch. The choice then came down to the Citzen or the Seiko 007 divers watch. I was wanting a watch with a bracelet and will probably buy one for this at some point but for the moment I'm quite happy with the rubber strap that came with the watch. I chose the Citizen over the Seiko because the supplier that was selling the Seiko was temporarily out of stock when I was about to purchase and I'd also read reviews that the Seiko had a 'taller' profile than the Citizen and as I don't have massive wrists wanted something a little less in your face. The citizen is a perfect size for me and doesn't look like a kitchen clock sitting on my wrists but is still imposing enough to look good.I have only had it for about 10 days now and I'm very happy with it. It is a solid enough construction and feels really well built. The movement is nice to watch and second hand sweeps around the face with constant precision. The uni-directional bezel has a solid click action and isn't too loose. The luminous 'dots' on the hands and hour markings are big and bright enough when in a darkened room, so I'm assuming they will be even better for someone who is using it for diving. Watch was easy to set and screw down crown worked a treat.I am very happy with this watch and would recommend it anyone who wants to buy a quality divers watch without breaking the bank

Great time keeping and service
I've been very impressed with this watch, which I purchased as a day-to-day alternative to an Omega De Ville Coaxial. The Omega's calibre 2628 movement is COSC certified, but the Citizen seems to keep time almost as well. There have been one or two niggles; firstly, I find that the bezel rotates quite freely, and on one occasion moved whilst I have been timing something which was frustrating. The second is that screwing in the crown can be a tad awkward as the spring is quite strong. I made a mistake in this respect, when I ended up simply winding the watch instead of screwing in the crown- despite thinking that I was applying enough pressure. The upshot was that moisture got into the watch when I next got it wet and formed condensation on the crystal... which brings me to Citizen's customer service, which was excellent.I visited their web site, found the UK service centre and followed the instructions to send the watch in. I had a quick chat with a gentleman on the phone during which I outlined my stupidity, and included a very short covering letter when I posted the watch. It was returned within 48-hours later without any hint of condensation. No charges, other than the cost of posting it to them. Well done to Citizen and their UK service centre, this level of customer service exceeded my expectations.Back to the watch, and despite the minor niggles that I mentioned above, I find that I am liking it more each day. It's a very easy watch to live with - it's not overly obtrusive like some larger divers can be, the position of the crown is great for anyone that is active (I cycle a lot and am glad to wear something that doesn't dig into my wrist) the face is clear and uncluttered, and the lume is good at night. It's also seriously good value for an ISO 6425 certified dive watch, and I look forward to using it for its intended use next time I get a chance to go diving.

Better than good
Citizen automatic 200m on 'rubber'I love this watch. I have many.....this is not only my favourite but one of the best investments I've ever made.Bit OTT you may say so bear with me:1. It looks cool. Not an hommage to a Rolex nor trying too hard to be original. It's not too big nor too small but sits on the wrist just right. A crown at 8 o'clock adds to this originality.2. The function and practacality of this thing is legendary at least in my world. I do a real job involving power tools and hammers and stuff and then go diving for shellfish after dark. After 3 months this watch shows no signs of wear or tear. No scratches visible to NE on either body or crystal. It's even stood up to several 40 ft cliff jumps into the ocean without missing a beat.3. Time keeping is excellent. I wear a number of different watches at weekends but my Citizen is my day2day watch and it keeps great time. I don't do quartz, only automatics, and this baby is as good, if not better than a Rolex.4. Living with it. So easy. Smash it around on your wrist all day without a second thought whether above or below the surface no problems whatsoever.Should I buy it?Why yes kind friend. But do it soon cos it's no longer produced so is going up in price by the day.Hope you enjoyed my review and found it useful.Wrighty

Citizen diver. Iso certified
This is a classic watch that is iso certified, and was the rival to the Seiko snk 007 dive watch, used in the Italian navy and a brilliant dive watch. Better that the Seiko equivalent at the time in the middle 90s in my opinion. A collection piece. It's got an updated movement which is the citizen miyota 8204 and it hacks now. Brilliant. I found the strap tough, but I had another citizen version, newer and softer, plus I had a bracelet for it too. They are being used on it from the newer ones today. They are discontinuing it very soon if not already, so I'd buy one now if you want it in your collection.

A Classic Timepiece
I've been after this watch for quite some time to add to my growing collection of Citizen watches. I was finally able to obtain one and at a great price!I already own another Promaster Diver, which in many ways is the modern interpretation of this watch with an Eco Drive movement, 300m water resistance and a domed crystal. The NY0040 is an absolute classic with a great history having been used by the Italian Marina Militare and the forebear of all the Promaster divers that followed.I was surprised by the size of the piece, especially compared to my other diver. It wears much smaller than the dimensions might suggest. That's fine for me as I have skinny wrists but definitely significantly smaller than my other diver. The finishing on the case is fantastic with nice transitions between polished and brushed surfaces. The case shape is perfect too and does not dig in when wearing. The dial is a lovely Inky gloss black which almost has the effect that the indices are floating, very nice. The movement I have in mine is the Miyota 8004 so hacking and hand-winding, which I appreciate. All in all a very nice timepiece and a must for all watch nerds.Recommended.

So far so good
Bought this as a leisure/weekender watch and also to occasional sports, incl diving.I think for the price watch feels and looks great. Strap is not fancy but good for the purpose (ie diving) but I intend to replace it soon. Perhaps trying a nato or bracelet since stock strap makes the watch simpler than it actually is.This is my first auto watch and rather than paying 3x- 5x for a Swiss quartz I'm happy with the purchase. I intend to use the watch actively and likely see how it holds up aftr getting scratched etc over time which should fit the intended purpose.Watch feels heavy enough and fits to medium sized wrists like mine not too bulky but not too small.Lume is sufficient and bright enough for night use.

Great value
This little gem of a watch is probably one of the best bang for buck watches you can find. It has a hand winding and hacking movement with the original style face.I am on the smaller side of wrists yet it wears amazing thanks to the lug to lug.The seller shipped the watch almost immediately and had it on my wrist in less than a weeks time . Overall excellent watch, excellent seller

Preis/ Leistung hervorragend!
Also kein Problem.
