I really enjoy my Berkey gravity water filter system, but replacing the filters sometimes feels like playing the stock market - with prices fluctuating like crazy. Then I read about how the Berkey filter lab test results were manipulated in their marketing to make them appear more effective than they really were. It made me realize that their filter prices were probably just as inflated as their test results. I then started looking for replacement filters that would still allow me to continue using the gravity filtration system that I find very convenient.These filters look just like the original Berkey charcoal filters but at a fraction of the OEM filter price. After reading about concerning lab tests regarding the original Berkey filters, I'm open to trying alternate filters. In particular, I believe it was the Berkey add-on Fluoride and Arsenic filter that had the most concerning results apparently introducing aluminum particles in water that didn't have any aluminum in the water prior to using the filter. I concluded that the charcoal filter alone, such as this one, is all that is needed for filtering standard city water, and that using the add-on filter for Fluoride and Arsenic was actually introducing some contaminants that might be considered harmful with ongoing exposure. I will no longer be buying the Berkey OEM filters, with prices that seem to fluctuate similar to the stock market, and will instead look to equivalent filters such as this one going forward.
