I have other books on spiritual direction. However, I like the description of the spiritual direction process, how to manage expectations, and the realistic recommendations to get the most out of my spiritual journey.

I liked the pacing and clarity of the book. I received great knowledge and understanding from my reading of the book.

This book is well written and balanced. It seamlessly blends in Scripture Tradition and the Magisterium but done so in a relational manner making it accessible to a wide range of readers interested in this topic.

If you want to learn more about this beautiful tradition. To learn if you are call to become a spiritual director. Yo should read this book.

Author tells it as this ministry is. As a spiritual director, I found myself being reminded in many parts of the book what this ministry is about, how to sit with another with attentive ears, why it is important to be in ongoing formation and education, the inevitable lows sometimes and more. In this helping ministry of souls, we should never be so proud as to think we already know everything. Thus it is a blessing to be reminded of our sacred calling.

I joined a peer-supervision group of spiritual directors and this was the book chosen for discussion. I have read 4 chapters so far and the book has been very helpful. Sometimes it is a bit repetitious but it presents the issues in spiritual direction very well. I do recommend the book to anyone who wants to be a better spiritual director.

If you are just looking into becoming a spiritual director, this is an amazing place to begin. A sure guide for any director.

well written book but it needs good editing

Recommended for Catholic Priests who are called to be shepherds after the heart of God leading individual souls to intimacy with God through prayer.

I flipped through this book as I was sincerely considering this area - I have the impression that this is a very serious path and one has to have the right personality and constitution to do it. I am not a fan of the title: 'spiritual director.' I would far prefer spiritual guidance. Playing a 'director' of someone's spiritual journey can be misleading in my opinion. A guide can be of a more humble player. I decided in any case, that this isn't for me. The book helped me do that.
