They have a seam but it's not bulky its quite flat and I've never had an issue with them being uncomfortable I only by sloggi but I wear a variety of style I.e., midi shorts tai

Q: do you have to handwash them?

They are fine in a machine wash. They are not going to spoil by machine wash had some for years and still in one piece seams, elastic all fine.
