Will acetone melt the varnish (or whatever it's called) that's on top of the wood?

Yes--I know that acetone removes the toughest of nail polishes, so am sure it would remove varnish.

Are these bristles interwoven?

I ordered them, but received a totally different set of brushes, which I returned.

Can you use mineral spirits with these?

Yes, no problem at all. These are good brushes.

Easy to clean, Authentic Hog Hair, well built and great sizes for oil or acrylic. I have used these brushes for a few months and is the first set to hold its durability with countless abrasive cleanings. The brushes are easy to load and keep a sharp line with oil paints and mediums. The sizes and brush profiles are great, a well rounded set for large block in and smaller detail and highlight painting. 10/10
