This is the first time I've gone for clipless pedals, and thus shoes with cleats, so have nothing to compare them to. The shoes look good and fit well and are breathable - but not likely to be waterproof. The ratchet strap is just about undoable with one hand. They are lay for walking in but, if I'm on a hard surface, I definitely take it easy. The cleats are awful though. I decided to use the cleats that came with the shoes, and save the ones that came with the Shimano pedals when the provided ones wore out in a year or two. But, within two weeks, and probably no more than eight rides, the right one was failing to clip in. I tightened the pedal as far as it would go and still no joy. As I unclip my right foot more I noticed quite a bit of mud around the cleat so took it off, cleaned it and replaced it. But it would still not clip in. In short, it had worn down so much in just 8 to 10 rides that it would no longer work. As soon as I replaced it with the ones that came with the pedals the problem was solved. So I recommend the shoes, and if you have other cleats then no problem.

Great shoes. Bought to replace an expensive branded pair which were never really comfortable. These shoes have a nice wide toe box, rigid platform and excellent ratchet fasteners. They are also true to size (unlike many cycling shoes) and come with cleats. I do a lot of miles so comfort and performance are important to me. Don’t be put off by the weird name and bargain price. These are great shoes.

Size good, colour good, sole nice and stiff. But… difficult to put on because tongue is too thin and creases too easily. Tongue is also too long and digs in the front of the leg. The click tighten straps are set for way too big (wide) feet, so they are only barely tight enough on the tightest setting. Also the heel crushes too easily so you need to use a shoe horn to put on

Tried it once on the trainer. Only yesterday first time I tried outdoors. The cleats position keeps changing in spite of tightening several times. I am feeling up just after using it twice. Since my return window is closed I am throwing them in the bin. My knees are more important.

Ideal for soft ground. Do not try to dismount whilst moving tarmac. They will slip.

First of all, I’m a roadie and just getting into mountain biking but I’ve been using SPDs on my bikes for 20 years. I’ve been using a pair of Shimano RT5 shoes for my early mountain biking adventures but every time I came to a steep muddy section..I had to admit defeat and slip slide my way to the top. So…I bought these. First impressions out the box, smart and just like the picture. Decent quality materials and double stitching where you’d expect. The ratchet system for the top strap is really useful when out on the bike as a quick flick of the button on it and it relieves a little bit of pressure and you can fine tune them to your feet. Pretty good for this price range. The shoe is rigid and that is noticeable when you are pedalling. I felt as if I was getting more for my efforts compared to my touring shoes and my feet didn’t feel fatigued at the end of my first 4hr trail ride in them. Waterproofing seems good, splashes from puddles etc..didn’t give me wet socks at all and a few scrapes from brambles and rocks seem to have left them unscarred (to my surprise). Washed off with a hose when I got home and all good too. When it came to the muddy sections, they did a good job with sufficient grip to allow me to walk up the climbs. They come with the optional 2 studs at the toe for extra bite, but I didn’t need them. SPD cleat plates came pre-fitted which is nice as it saves faffing around..just bolt on the cleats in the position you need and they were ready to use. I’m normally a size 9 (44 EU) shoe, but recent Shimano toe box shapes have felt tight so I thought I’d go for a 9.5, which FOTGOAT describe as 275mm in length. The toe box is nice and wide so if anything I might have been able to go for a size 9, but it would come down to thickness of socks I suspect. All in all, a great pair of SPD shoes at a good price. I’d quite like them in brighter colours though…otherwise perfect.
