Great value and fantastic performance
I needed to replace the rear shock on my 2013 Salsa Spearfish and found the DNM when searching Amazon for one of the $300 name-brand shocks. Given the price, I was a little worried about the durability and performance until I read some of the reviews. In the interest of science I decided to give it a test, and am I glad I did! The Salsa has always been a little soft in the back, sucking up power and making the bike less than effective as a cross-country racer. Higher pressure would help, but response suffered. The "pro-pedal" position had no effect. The DNM shock has transformed my bike and on the first ride with the recommended setup I beat my best time for our 10-mile XC circuit. Talk about impressed! The second loop was even faster. It has two chambers so compression and rebound can be finely tuned. There is also a rebound damping wheel and a lockout lever that actually works. I found the motion was so well controlled that I didn't need the lockout. Installation on the Salsa was difficult and required some tools that the average person might not have. Watch the video on Amazon as there are no instructions included with the shock! I needed to remove 2mm from the metal sleeves that insert through either end of the shock, and I needed to remove 1 mm from each of the plastic bushings that press over the end of the sleeve. They supply longer ones you can cut down if you have a steering column cutoff clamp but it seemed easier to take a little off the original parts using a bench grinder. The sleeve quickly heats up so I had to come up with a way to hold the part. After grinding I had to use a rat-tail file to clean up the bore and a mill file to clean up the ends. The bushings were easy to trim using the side of the grinding wheel. By the way, the video on Amazon that demonstrates modifications shows the metal sleeve being easily pushed out with fingers but I had to use a hammer and drift. All's well that ends well. Buy this shock if you need a replacement - you'll be glad you did.

Absolutely worth the money!
After originally having a no name, bikesdirect.com, crummy coil over shock on my bike...that 9/10 would bottom out on anything aggressive on the trail, this was a million + upgrade. I floated around Amazon wanting something great without having to spend a lot of money as I am an average trail rider with an average bike (meaning, I'm not buying a shock that cost more then my bike). I was caught between this shock and an older Fox air shock, but what made this the choice was it didn't look like I would need to buy additional bushings to install it straight out of the box. With Fox Racing, you have to buy an additional kit with the correct sized bushings, etc. Man did I ever win with this shock! I took it out of the box and had it installed on my bike in less than 5 minutes, it was a direct fit straight out of the box. My first ride, I took it on the road and the trail around me with large ruts and some good drops. This beast's performance was way above expectations!!! Never bottoms out and holds the air well. (No loss of PSI when I returned and checked) The ability to lockout once you hit the pavement is great. No more "bouncy" pedals I experienced with the bikes factory shock. Ride felt a thousand times smoother, more controlled on the trails, and is extremely easy to adjust while riding. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to have a great upgrade and not have to bust their wallet doing it.

Nice shock for the price
had a hard time keeping air in the secondary chamber. compared to the fox I had to replace, the ride is less supple (could be do to the secondary chamber?). Other than that, everything worked as advertised and I am happy with the performance

A great alternative to the big name (big price!) brands.
A little background info- my bike is the amazing Gary Fisher Sugar 1, and I ride in the mountains of Arizona. When the stock shock (a Cane Creek Cloud Nine) began experiencing problems calling for a full factory rebuild, I did some research and discovered that I could buy this shock for less than the cost of that rebuild. Emboldened by Amazon's return policy, I took a chance and ordered one. First impression was that the shock looked great and felt like a quality piece of kit. Installation was nearly seamless- the eyelets on this shock measure 8mm, while the eyelets on the Cloud Nine were only 6mm. No problem- for another $5 I bought some 6x8 steel bushings, slid them into the DNM's eyelets, and mounted the shock easily. Time for a test ride! I took a gentle trail first, wanting to see if the bike felt different. After a bit of tuning on the rebound damper, the shock felt smooth and plush. Better than the aged CC shock which, in fairness, had lost all compression and rebound adjustments. For a tougher test, I headed for Granite Mountain. Bigger hits, rocky descents- the more technical the trail, the more impressed I became. This shock ate it all effortlessly. The lockout lever worked very well and helped reduce pedal bob on the steeper climbs to near zero. It's behavior and feel have impressed me for several weeks and a few hundred miles. All that's left is the test of time. The Cane Creek, after all, lasted over a decade and would still be a great shock had I paid to rebuild it. This DNM shock feels bulletproof. If I experience any problems, I'll be sure to update this review, as I continue to put miles on it. Edit 12/26/17- Two years in, and this shock is still going strong. I don’t use this bike as my daily choice, since I added a Pivot to my fleet, but the Sugar still gets plenty of use. The shock does not leak at all, despite the time and beatings it has taken. I would absolutely buy this shock again.

I'm Impressed
Excellent shock for the price! Holds air, runs smooth, no complaints on the compression. The neg air chamber and rebound damping work well too. Although, like other reviews have noted, the rebound dial doesnt take effect until 4-5 clicks till the "slowest". Not really a prob, ya still got a couple good settings in there. I'll edit this review if I figure out how to change its effectiveness :) ---- will it fit a hyper hydroform? My specialized was stolen, so I did the Walmart challenge on a hyper hydroform ($58 on clearance lol). This shock fits the mounts, with 0 modifications. The included bushings fit nearly perfect. Some nylon washers filled in the slight top bushing gap of like 1/16" per side (recommended). I opted for the 200mm AOY, as opposed to the stock 190mm found on the hydroform. This bumps the rear travel up a bit, and allows me to run a little less pressure (plush) since the cantilever angle is more linear (185lb rider). It's slightly diff Geometry unloaded, but ya got more play to compensate sag. Anyways, great shock. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another!

Really Impressive Tunability and Quality For the Price
I boutght this to replace an old Cane Creek AD10 that I couldn't get to stop leaking and/or find a seal kit for. I installed it on an older frame bike that I built up for my son to start riding. I was skeptical, but for the price went for it. I am very pleased with it's tunability/function and overall quality. He's ridden it pretty hard for a few weeks now and everything is holding up just fine. We'll see how it holds up over time... but for now I'm shocked at how well this functions for the price. I did have to do some major modifications to the eyelet bushings (thinned them down with a grinder) and then also had to put in some diaameter reducing sleeves (that I also modified to fit) into the eyelet bushings insterts to reduce the overall diameter to the bolts that were required by the Jamis bike frame. Hence the 3 on "ease of install" rating, but that wasn't too bad to get a shock this good for this price.

1200 abusive miles strong!!
Had my ebike about a week before I found out what riding on a cloud was. The factory pos rear shock sucked and the front springer fork felt smooth. Added the DNM air shock and got a shock pump. Began to play with different pressures and damping speeds. Watched some videos and finally figured it out after a few weeks. 1st. Get a decent (dnm makes one but wasn't in stock at the time)) Shock pump that can be removed from the valve without loss of air. 2nd. Learn how the positive and negative chambers work or just use a chart to fill them. 3rd. You want some sag (20%ish sag) allows the shock to eat up those smaller bumps by keeping rear tire trailing the ground or small obstacle while your weight load lightens as you crest a bump. 4th. The red spinning thing next to the red lockout switch.. that's your damping adjustment which speeds up or slows down the rate of compression or rebound. Go all the way one way and roll slowly off a bump then the other way. Do it going fast too. Bounce on the bike and feel the speed at which you rebound after compressing. Too fast and you'll prob go over a bump and be slapped in the ass by the seat. If to slow and your going over bumps quickly the suspension won't have time to return before it's needed to compress again... Your damping adjust (red spinning thing) with one finger can be spun from end to end with about 10 spins (as far as your finger can spin without resetting on the dial) I keep mine about 4 spins away from slow. Anyways, it's a great shock. Holds air near perfectly. No oil leaking. Just a happy shock. Just ordered air forks so I'll be plush all the way around.

Works better than advertised
All the adjustments work so well especially the damper. Take your cheap oem shock and chuck it .This was the best 150,00 I spent in a long time . Update 3 months later and 600 + km's on snow trails this winter it is still perfect and never had to add any air at all . Great product and a reasonable price, 6 star now .

Good for the price
I have a mate x and the original rear shock is poor quality, it kept bottoming out on bumps anything even gravel. Now with this shock once you set up the air chambers it’s amazing no sore backside anymore so worth the money. Note for Road use it also has a lockout so even better.
