Zero buyer’s remorse
If you’re anything like me, shopping for a motorcycle GPS meant watching countless YouTube videos, reading reviews, and asking around before making a decision. After all that research, I chose this unit and had it professionally installed on my 2017 Ducati Multistrada 1200 S. I ride recreationally quite a bit—up to 3,000 miles per month, almost entirely on paved roads—and I’ve been extremely happy with this GPS. The unit feels very high quality, and the screen is large, crisp, and extremely bright. Seriously—bright. Once you use this, you’ll wonder why you relied on your phone for navigation for so long. Visibility is excellent in nearly all lighting conditions, including full sun. The touchscreen is also very glove-friendly and easy to operate while riding. It does everything I need and more. It connects consistently to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi without issue, updates easily, and I especially like how simple it is to add waypoints and points of interest. In addition to excellent navigation, I also use it to display and control Spotify. The interface is responsive and fast—no lag when switching menus or screens. Because I often ride spiritedly on twisty roads, I appreciate knowing when sharp turns or long straightaways are ahead. I’ve also paired it with my Garmin InReach since I frequently ride outside cell/data coverage—yet another reason a dedicated GPS is worth having. Yes, modern smartphones can technically navigate via satellite, but in my experience they’re slower and far less practical for motorcycle use. Bottom line: I have zero buyer’s remorse and would absolutely purchase this unit again. Bonus tip for fellow 3rd-gen Multistrada owners: I initially mounted this to the handlebars but later found an Amazon mount that positions it centered above the OEM infotainment screen. It’s a much better setup. See attached photos and search: Xitomer Motorcycle GPS Mount Bracket for Multistrada.

This is a good GPS unit.
Why did you pick this product vs others?: During long motorcycle rides you will find yourself in "cell phone free zones"- no cell service. Just buy this as a dedicated waterproof motorcycle GPS and you will not have to worry about downloading maps to your phone, or your phone overheating or getting too cold and shutting down. I have the XT GPS on my one motor and bought this one for my new motorcycle. The XT2 has a little bigger screen and comes with a mount in the box! Who knew? I bought a similar mount, mounted it on the motorcycle and then opened the XT2 box and found the same style mount. This XT2 GPS has been accurate and brightness very visible in the daylight. I have not had a ride with it at night so far. The touchscreen feature works with a gloved finger. I actually bought this unit while Amazon had a sale price going on. Although everything is getting expensive these days, the fact that I don't have to use my phone for my GPS unit makes this unit worth the money to me.

Inexcusable Failure for a Device Designed for Adventure Travel - Unreliable while traveling.
Garbage! I’m on my second Garmin Zumo XT2. The first unit began an “update” that never completed—days of being unusable. I returned it and received a replacement. Now I’m on day 3 of a two-week motorcycle ride, and this second unit is also failing. Today it repeatedly flashed—screen dimming to the point of being nearly black and unreadable, even though it was still technically on. I could barely make out the screen, rendering it useless while riding. I reached out to support. Their only solution? Send it back (again). I can either: 1. Ship mine first and wait for them to send a new one after they receive it, or 2. Put down a $360 deposit to get a replacement shipped in 1–3 days—then get the deposit refunded after returning the broken unit. Sounds reasonable until you realize I’m on the road and can’t sit still in one place for 2–5 days waiting on a delivery. Garmin refuses to ship to my next destination or guarantee expedited delivery to a future stop. No voucher. No workaround. No real help. Just “sorry, we can’t.” These devices are supposed to be built for travelers, yet Garmin’s support model completely fails those who are actively traveling. And this thing isn’t cheap. At this price point, you expect premium performance and reliability—not to be stranded with a malfunctioning unit and no real-time support options. Garmin is charging a premium and delivering a lemon. Also worth noting: the Tread app is a disaster, and discontinuing BaseCamp was a monumental misstep. Stripping away BaseCamp’s route planning in favor of the clunky and unstable Tread app represents a massive regression in Garmin’s software ecosystem. Verdict: Don’t waste your money. This unit—and Garmin’s support structure—simply cannot be trusted when you need it most.

Love my new Garmin Zumo XT2!
This high resolution unit is easily readable in the direct sunlight and can be dialed down as needed. There are so many amazing features that I am still learning. Easy to install. Make sure to hard wire the power to your battery so it does not turn off with the ignition. It also comes with various handle bar mounts for different configurations.

Sturdy mount but...
The mount for this is a "B" sized RAM mount. It comes with the brake hydraulic mount as well as the U mount for your handlebars. There is a weird power connection behind this locking mount thing. Then they give you probably 10 ft of bare stripped wire to hook up to your battery (after a fuse of course). The unit itself has a little rubber cap over a USB C port also. The mount is amazing! It has a little bit of a seal around it so that the electrical connections don't get wet. It's very sturdy. Easy to install. It's a fantastic mount! The unit has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It will connect to your home network to do updates (when connected to your motorcycle power). The unit has its own power, as well, so you can do things on it when it's not connected to your motorcycle. But it won't update unless it's connected to the 12 volt system of your motorcycle. Brightness is more than enough. Clarity and detail is perfect. Connectivity with a Bluetooth helmet, and a Bluetooth phone, and Wi-Fi all simultaneously is completely possible and usable. Spoken GPS directions while driving are more clear than old Garmin units, but not as human as Google maps. Somewhere in between. You get traffic updates, weather/radar updates, map updates, everything from your phone, or from Wi-Fi when you are back at the house and plugged up to your motorcycle mount. Using the actual system... You download the app, you connect it to the GPS itself via Bluetooth. Now you just have to figure out everything. Mine was pretty difficult to try to figure out, because I already had so many Garmin waypoints from having Garmin GPS smart watches and things. So my motorcycle now had lots of kayaking spots and camping spots and hiking spots, etc. Yes you can filter what you want to see and what you don't want to see, but it doesn't work very well. You have to go through multiple menu options each time, if you want to only have "motorcycle spots". Even when you filter out your hiking trails, and favorite places to drive to in a car - they keep showing up on your motorcycle GPS. I'm debating on creating a second Garmin account just for the motorcycle stuff so it will not show me trails that I have hiked and saved. Traffic - Yes it will detect that the interstate is backed up for miles, and it will navigate you right onto it. Right at the back of the line. I think it even makes sure that it's over 90F outside before it does that. Why bother taking two extra miles of surface streets when you can sit in this? Yes it knows if the DOT has closed a road due to a giant tree across the road and power lines down. This GPS will navigate you right up to it and you will have to sit in traffic, then do a U-turn, then figure it out on your own because it doesn't understand that if the road is closed, you can't drive on it. It shows the little icon of the road being closed, but it still wants you to float over the downed tree. Maybe it thinks I'm in a helicopter? If you want to avoid a big section of the interstate (custom avoidances), it will only recognize North, or South (or East or West) at one time. So I can avoid 10 miles of the interstate going north. But when I come back, South is perfectly fine. If you want to avoid the interstate altogether, you have the option of avoiding the "highway" completely. But for me, not all of the highways are terrible all the time... You get the idea. The adventure mode type routing option is awesome when you are planning it out on your phone for tomorrow's ride. But it will save it to your GPS flawlessly, and then you turn on the GPS before you go riding, you pull up the saved route, and it changes things and doesn't really want to do what you had set up on your phone. If you do manage to save lots of perfectly placed waypoints and navigate to connect all of them together, you absolutely cannot miss one of the spots. The whole route disappears if you are riding and you miss one of the waypoints. It's like you are now navigating through a swamp and the GPS just freaks out. My personal conclusion: save a lot of waypoints, maybe an hour apart from each other, and make your route just connecting the waypoints one at a time - taking a short stop and stretch every hour or so. It's a great device as far as point to point routing, and the weather, and updates and all of that. It's just sucks at multiple waypoint adventure routing, unless a firmware update fixes that soon.
