Benefits from being written a chapter at a time.
‘Too Late’ is a humdinger of a psychological thriller, which is pacy, violent, sexy, and very, very good. I fancied a book that was change of pace from my usual historicals or mysteries, and boy did I get it! The books start with a forward by the author, explaining the book was never meant to be written. This immediately made me want to read on…. Apparently Colleen was suffering from lack of inspiration and to help her mojo, wrote a chapter at a time which she posted for free online. Then she’d wait for reader feedback before crafting the next chapter. It was intended as a throw away project to be picked up and put down, which grew and took on a life of its own. Sloan is a battler, a girl with more responsibility on her young shoulders than many experience in a lifetime. Unfortunately, the financial solution to many of those problems is Asa Jackson, drug dealer, who becomes infatuated with her. Enter Carter (real name Luke), an undercover cop assigned to infiltrate Asa’s inner circle. Sloan and Carter have chemistry, which tips the balance and means Sloan can no longer tolerate Asa’s coercive, abusive, manipulative control of her. But Asa is a dangerous man and Sloan is his girl, so things cannot end well…or can they? The book benefits from being written a chapter at a time, with plenty of cliffhangers and twists aplenty. This book wont be for everyone (lots of trigger warnings at the beginning ) but for some readers, myself included, it was a hum-dinger of a read. Can’t wait for the next time I need a change of pace, because Colleen Hoover books are waiting!

An okay read with a bit too much awkward romance for me
Not a bad read all in all, but it didn’t surprise me in the slightest to learn that this author is primarily a romance writer. Not a genre I tend to read, but the over-abundance of this protagonist ‘brushing hair off her forehead’ or ‘wiping a tear away from her cheek’ to try to emphasise what a nice guy (TM) he is got pretty cringeworthy. The two fall in love far too quickly, and it kind of spoils a lot of the authenticity of the plot when I feel the two are both mistaking these strong feelings of love for what would actually likely just be lust at that point. Having said that, the antagonist is a good character and his chapters do a good job of delving into his backstory and explaining his behaviours. The ending is a bit drawn out too, with a lot of it feeling unnecessary after a certain point. I’d struggle to recommend this to fans of more traditional thriller, but it’s not an out and out bad book if you like the sound of the premise or are a fan of the author.

My first but not last Colleen Hoover read!
So I will admit that this is my first read by this author and as much as I know its different from her other works, its still made me want to jump in and read more by her over time. This story keep me hooked and desperate to see where Sloans journey would take her. When she finds herself a brief relief while suffering through her daily life, shes unsure whether to take that risk or whether to avoid extra drama. Twists, turns and secrets keep you flipping those pages!

On the edge of your seat!
I've had Too Late sitting on my Kindle for several months. Truthfully I was scared to read it beacuse 1. it's a CoHo book, whom I love. 2. I've heard so much about how it's so very much out of her wheelhouse. 3. I knew I would read it far too fast and wish it was still there waiting for me to read. Yes this is very much out of CH wheelhouse & in fact many times as I was reading it I had to remind myself that this was indeed a CoHo book. With that being said this book just sucks you in, depriving you of all other thought, just making you think about when you'll be able to get back to it after you put it down. This book is dark, raw, edgy. But it still has a romance element that is very strong throughout. The characters were so developed and complex. The plot so very intriguing. A very well rounded storyline that should make readers happy at the end. I highlighted many favorite quotes from this book but this one really stuck with me. "And this kiss is just the beginning of a whole new book. A book where maybe miracles aren’t that far-fetched."

Dark and Gripping – Not Your Usual Love Story
This book was really intense. Too Late is not like the usual love stories by Colleen Hoover. It’s dark, serious, and has a lot of scary and emotional moments. But once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. The story is about a girl named Sloan who’s stuck in a bad relationship with a guy named Asa. He’s controlling, dangerous, and involved in illegal stuff. She’s only staying with him to take care of her sick brother. Then she meets Carter, a guy who seems kind and safe—but things get more complicated. Some parts of the book are hard to read because they talk about abuse and other disturbing things. So, if that bothers you, be careful with this one. Asa, the bad guy, is written in a way that really makes you feel scared and angry. The book isn’t perfect—some scenes felt a bit too dramatic—but it kept me hooked. If you like stories that are emotional, serious, and full of suspense, you might really like this.

Gripping, tense, undercover hotness
Is it has I have a major soft spot for Asa and despite living carter/luke I really wanted him to get help and become a better person, or maybe i just pity him. This book is intense and gripping. I loved the undercover cop relationship. Loved the not knowing what version of As a we were going to get and what aspects would make him flip. I think he was my favourite character, just because he is so complex and as we delve into his past, you as a reader understand him more, not that that means he can act the way he does. I couldn't put this book down, told in multiple POVs I was great to get each characters thoughts and feelings on certain events. A must read for me.
