Franklin Sports Quick-Setup Steel Soccer Goal

Bought this 6 months ago for my 10 yo daughter and she loves it. My 5 yo now uses it as well. They are both regular soccer players. I have blasted some shots on them and I never feel like its going to fall over or fall apart. The frame is pretty solid, assembly wasn't bad, although be forewarned its not something you want to have to move often. It takes 2 people to move it any length of distance. The net itself is pretty good quality. The velcro strips do fall off sometimes but zipties would be an option if that bothers you. I actually think the net is less likely to break if the strips give and fall off sometimes. I have no expectation that the net webbing itself will last forever or not break in areas. But for the price, this has been better than I expected. I'm glad I went with a sports name brand I have heard of and not some random one.

I bought this because I needed a cheap, but really good goal for backyard play. Here are my thoughts on this goal.. Packaging: The soccer goal comes in a box the size of about a guitar and weighs a good 37 pounds. Each steel bar is packaged in plastic bag and so do the stakes and the net. Set Up: First things first, this is definitely a TWO person assembly. I was stupid enough to try it myself, but I eventually needed assistance from my dad. It took me a good hour and a half to get it finished with net and Velcro strips. With two people you could assemble this faster than I did, around an hour or even less. Quality: The steel bars are great and the net is deemed "All Weather". I will post an update since some thunderstorms are imminent and I'll share how the net showed up to its expectations. I'm 15 and can kick hard but the goal stayed in place WITHOUT even putting on the stakes so I almost guarantee this will stay in place perfectly with the stakes put in. My dad also kicked it hard and it still stayed in place so that's another example. The net will stay in place with the Velcro strips they just have to be put strategically. I didn't follow the instruction with the strips and so far the net hasn't got out of place. Pretty good Velcro strips. The size of the goal is 12 x 6 x 5. It's a pretty good width but the height is kind of a setback if you're 6 feet or taller. Price: I payed $76 for this and in my opinion is a bargain! It's bigger than a 5 x 10 for around $50 and still ok compared the goals that go up to $150. It's not a bad goal for casual backyard play and training on your shots. Conclusion: In the end, this is a great goal and you will definitely get your moneys worth. I think it is best for ages 16-17 and under for casual play and all ages for shot training. If I experience any problems (not likely =P) I will be sure to update this review. UPDATE 5-26-15: After seven heavy thunderstorms and 1 TORNADO this thing is still looking almost like NEW. This is definitely a bargain and I heavily recommend this!

It was very easy to put together and looks good…..although it doesn’t seem to be 6ft tall….

We just got this for Christmas 2015, so I don't know yet about long-term resilience, but so far so great. My 10 year old has used it every day so far. Set-up was incredibly simple for such a large item. One page of directions, mostly snap-together poles, 8 screws with wing-nuts (no tools necessary, although I found a screw-driver to be helpful). Took less than an hour with no help and no cursing. Not a huge net, but it is large and more than sufficient for good goal practice with my 10-year-old. Everything seems secure, and it does not seem flimsy at all (with steel tubes). It requires 2 people to move because of its bulk, but it is definitely movable (before assembly, I could carry it myself in its box - I'm not big). My only concern so far is that it does have some screws that stick out and up. They are pretty discreetly placed, but it still made me nervous since my son does dive a bit. I concocted a makeshift cover for them using the shipping end-caps from the steel tubes, but will have to figure out a better long term solution. This is a pretty reasonably priced net for backyard use. I figured it was cheaper to buy this than to replace my garage doors, which were serving as my son's net up til now.

Update: So I just bought my 2nd one, that should give you an idea... This is a great value to set up in the yard, leave it out through weather and sun, and let the kids play without having setup/takedown time and effort. This would not be a good goal to put up, take down, put up, etc. (at least compared to other more expensive goals, we have another for taking places). But it is sturdy and provides a larger goal for play in the back yard for an excellent value. So the new one came with velcro strips to attach the goal, which are all tearing fairly easily. I'm not going to mark my stars down for that, you can reattach where they tear, and they'll work until the sun rots them out and they'll need to be replaced anyways... I'm also not going to mark down stars for the reason I needed to replace my first one: kids LOVE to jump up and hang on the crossbar. This goal won't take that due to the nice big size. Tell your kids that if they jump up and grab the bar, you will do things to them that they won't like, and that their goal will bend and sag and eventually the metal will oxidize and break where the metal is stressed or fatigued or whatever. I considered the powder coated model that was quite a bit more expensive, but I think the value in this one made my decision for me, coupled with the fact that the first one lasted for years.I Original Review Much better than the small hand-me-down soccer goal my boys were using. I can see their ball striking skills improving! Good value, everything great still after a few weeks of hard use. I can see me wanting more velcro straps as they wear and age from outdoor exposure, but that is an easy one.

We've had this for six months and have been very pleased with it. We'll see how it holds up over the winter. I expect we'll need to replace the net (the sun, rain, and our kids abuse it with impunity!). It's light enough that our elementary school daughter and her friends can move it (working together) but it doesn't tip over. We have extra velcro ties that we use (we have a few nets of various sizes), together with athletic tape and zip ties. You'll definitely want to use more than what's provided. Having gone through a few nets on smaller sized Franklin goals that we have and still use (it seems sunlight can really wear down the tensile strength over time), we bought extra netting when we purchased this goal, but we haven't had to use it yet, as there is only one small tear in the net so far which I've been able to (kind of) repair. We've recommended this to many friends, so this is now pretty much the standard 'big' soccer goal in yards in our neighborhood. I would say that, if you can get this for less than $70 (i.e on sale) and you're in the market for a reasonable sturdy, lightweight soccer goal for your yard of these dimensions, it's a great buy. (And I like it better than a few other ones that go for around $100.)

Bought our first Franklin 6X12 goal 3+ years ago and it's held up very well as my boys - now playing U10 and U13 competitive soccer - can really strike the ball well. Decided it was time to retire the first goal as the crossbar was starting to bend and the net had a few small tears. But rather than move away from this goal, we decided to buy two more and place them side-by-side to create one large 6X24 goal with just the side posts in the middle. The boys love it and I love knowing the Franklin goals will hold up to both my shots and theirs. My only suggestion is you buy a pack of 25 "6-inch ball bungee cords" to secure the netting in place as the Velcro straps provided are borderline useless. Other than that, this is a great goal for the price. Highly recommend.

Looks flimsy when put together but Great product and solid. 15 year old Kid plays competitive Level and is using this net excessively. The net never flipped or broke. Used during Canadian winters and resisted. Yes soccer is played in snow. When you love the game you do what you have to do! Easy to install. The only issue is the Velcro to attach the net, they didn’t last a week so reinforced with cord.
