Rewrite Our Story: A Sutten Mountain Standalone

This is a love story, starting a long time ago. At least, for Marigold (Goldie) Evans, it did. She is best friends with, Pippa, but her heart belonged, to Pippa’s older brother, Cade. What seals the deal for her is, the night her mother passes away, she is ten. She runs, to their home. At the moment of her mother's passing, and the sounds of her father's sobs. Without thinking in the middle of the night, with only her socks and nighty, while there is snow everywhere.She needs only him, but just before she decides to turn the knob, to his door she has second thoughts. As if he senses her before she opens, Pippa’s door he whispers, out to her. Cade Jennings, is there calling to her, “Goldie?” He pulls her into his room, changes her socks, and gets a blanket to wrap around her. She asks, how he knew, she was out there. He simply said, he didn't know, he woke up and just knew, she was there. And that, she needed him, then there she was.He scooted her under his covers as tears fell from her eyes. Thirteen years old, Cade, with nerves of steel, asks what was going on. He wipes her tears, asking what she needs and how can he take the pain away. She utters, “Momma, she’s gone.” At her words, he pulls the comforter over their heads to block out the world and he holds her tight in his arms. Goldie always brought out a different side of, Cade. He became her anchor in the night. When things became, too real with her mom's death and dealing with her father, too hard. When reality changes hurting, too much, Cade was there until he wasn’t.Goldie’s sixteenth birthday starts, to tip the scales, in a different direction. At least, as far as their relationship, is concerned. Not in a lovey-dovey way, but in a closeness that may be starting to scale the love wall. When Pippa leaves her high and dry, on her midnight birthday ride, Cade saves the night. Goldie tells him since he graduated, she misses the extra time, they had together. Now, two years have passed, it's her senior year, and he’s the one feeling left out.This is the summer before she and Pippa go off to college, she’s silently holding out for him. Goldie will be in a big city around a lot of guys who won’t make her guess where she stands with him. During the day their eyes seek each other out, but at night their arms do to hold on to each other a little tighter. At nineteen, he doesn't show up for their midnight ride. The first since her sixteenth, disappointment hits hard. He doesn't give her, an explanation as to why, the no show. However, shows up later, to just sleep with her for, the first time in her bed.Their camping trip finally turns the tide. His friend, Brandon has been showing interest. This trip is when she breaks away from the group, with, Brandon while on an ATV ride. When he starts to go in for a kiss Cade comes blazing in pissed as can be. Leaving her to tell him after going to bed angry, and him waking her up for the same shite different day, she’s done. She’s tired of the back and forth between them. Tired of guessing how he feels. Really, she’s just tired, of him. She kisses him instead of holding back, he goes full board. The green-eyed monster strikes again.This opens a can of worms, he isn’t as mature, as he thinks he is. He starts a secret relationship, takes her gift offered, and then crushes her beyond measure. Then, can’t understand why she chose, to never come back home. Unfortunately, she does when, Pippa calls saying her mom, second mom, to Goldie has passed away. See if the choices made were the right ones or not. See if a discussion beforehand could have saved a lot of pain. The back and forth between past and present were smooth transitions so you won’t find yourself confused. I really enjoyed the characters and hope to read Pippa’s story soon.

This was truly one of the best books I have ever read. I’ve never read a book that made me cry in the prologue but here we are 😂Cade and Mare have one of the sweetest stories and some of the best development, I think ever. I love how even when they had a hard time with each other after reuniting, they were still mature adults and didn’t pretend or hide what they were feeling. I loved seeing the flashbacks of Cade and Mare when they were kids, teenagers, and young adults when they finally got together. Cade was sooo sweet with Mare, I highlighted so many of his lines in this book 😭 their relationship was just SO GOODDD ugh f you guys!!! I absolutely adored Mare because I found her to be so relatable and I just really really connect with her character. And I LOVED how supportive Cade was the second time around (not that he was supportive the first time, he was just a little confused guys it’s okay 🥲). And they’re little getaways so that Cade could celebrate her birthday with just the two of them?? 😭 I also loved the friendship between Mare and Pippa — and I have a feeling book 2 is about her and the tourist 👀 But this book made me feel so many emotions and I literally have not stopped thinking about it since I read it. It is perfect.“Did you make your wish?” He whispers. “My wish came true, I have you.”Read this if you like:- small town- second chance- grumpy x sunshine- best friends brother- cowboy x city girl (who’s a former country girl)- enemies to lovers, but only because they’re denying their feelings 😭TW: death of a loved one is heavily discussed in this one 🫶🏻

Overall I really liked the story and there were parts that were great but the gripes I have just feel like big ones that I can’t stop coming back to in my head.I struggled with younger Cade. When he’s with Goldie he seems more in tune with his feelings so to speak but towards the end it just all fell apart and felt a bit irrational. I understand they had to be separated in some way but for him to love her so hard and to not only say what he said at the airport, but to never reach out? The Chicago trip I could understand him being taken aback but if you’re talking soulmates and he built a home for her with a field of marigolds….. I feel like he would’ve tried harder. The lack of emotional intelligence at times was just frustrating.ALSO when she comes back and he’s just so mad at her for so long… I understand him being upset that she didn’t come back but she had the best reason for it. She felt played AND he fueled that fire by saying he didn’t love her and to move on basically.Another thing I couldn’t quite get over is his dirty talk when he was younger. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the mouth on Cade but it seemed a bit too far fetched for me in the younger portions.Overall it was good but just missed some marks for me to rationally wrap my head around.

Okay so this was my first Kat Singleton book and it won’t be my last! Omg! I devoured this book in one sitting.This book made me laugh, cry, and blush and sometimes, it was at the same time. Kat does an amazing job of delivering this second chance romance taking place now while helping you understand the events of the past that got them to where they are.This was an incredible read. It was definitely a steamy read but it was also beautifully written the way Kat wrote the love story of Mare and Cade and how she worked the title into the book/plot. I hope Pippa gets her own book!

Omg! The angst, the spice, the heartache! this book has it all! I absolutely loved the past and present story of Marigold and Cade! So much emotion wrapped up in to one story!

2⭐️How difficult was for me to finish this book. I love second chance romances and this had promising elements like small town, second chance romance, angst, spice, but, didn’t work for me.The writing style is good, and the time and place transitions are very well executed, which is something I respect. However…The entire “misunderstanding” was not a misunderstanding at all. The guy told the h he didn’t love her, right to her face, looking into her eyes. She left and decided not to go back because it hurt.But the he was upset and cruel and acted as if he was wounded and justified his attitude… I mean, what?! Obviously, the story’s managed in a back-present format that tries to uncover the anguish and the reason why everything happened and it ended being very random. This didn’t justify anything.Also, I’m all about smut but this book has a very extra cheesy one. It ended up being hilarious instead of sexy. It didn’t work for me.Yet, I’m intrigued about Pippa’s story.

There wasn't a single thing that came out of his mouth that made me cringe. He was so dirty and classy at the same time. I can't even explain it. 😆This story hit so hard. I sobbed every time I read the flashbacks, I cried every time I saw the symbolism of their spiritual presence. I cried the absolute most when I read that single line above. "Bring our Marigold home." “You’ve always had me. You just weren’t paying attention.”Oh my god this story tugged at all my heartstrings. From the prologue, I felt like I was in a chokehold and couldn’t take a full breathe until half way through their love story.Marigold and Cade were in love until the day that she leaves for college and he breaks both of their hearts. Marigold had no intentions of returning home until she got the phone call that forced her to go. It was time to face the boy she never got over.Honestly, I thought I was in the clear. I was almost 80% done and I haven’t shed a tear. Then I got to a certain letter and I couldn’t help but cry for these characters. This story is based on past and presents events just woven together in such a special way. You get to see how they fell in love and how they found their way back to each other.And might I add that I appreciated Cade’s dirty mouth. After reading BT&WL’s I thought I was ready for it, but I wasn’t. Enjoy, ladies.
