A wonderful way to become quickly acquainted with the fashion industry and it's style purveyors.

I needed this book specifically for a fashion design course that I give. The project was to imagine that you were the art director working for a specific designer and you were to create a line with that designer's vision. This book explains the influences and history of major designers-- very good.

Extremely learned! I perused about two dozen fashion books before deciding on three, and this is the best of the bunch. If you want a very thorough review of designers and their influences, this is the book to get. Astoundingly informed. Should be required reading for anyone who wants to know the history of 20th / early 21st century fashion.
