Wildly inaccurate
This is a nice looking thermometer. However, as suggested, I left it for a couple of hours, outside to self adjust to the correct temperature. This didn't work. I then calibrated it. This didn't work. Outside temperature was 13c but it was at 30! Gave up after a few days and returned it. Waste of money if it doesn't do what it's meant to do!!!!

Waterproof or not?
Very clear dial visible from a distance and with good accuracy. Marked down because whilst the product description said indoor/outdoor and WATERPROOF, the leaflet enclosed from the manufacturer staes it is NOT waterproof and if used outdoors should be placed in a rain shelter. Discussed with customer service who said to use it and if it failed return it within two years. The location I wish to use it in cannot be made waterproof.

I had hoped that this would look like something of quality on my front porch, where we can see it from the living room window. It does so, and even close up, it looks very good. It has a steel case, with a dark, bronze-like finish. The face is printed precisely and the hands are made for the divisions. I especially like the large, dark definition of the scales, which makes the thermometer readable from about nine feet away, the humidity, maybe six feet. Next consideration was the operation, and the short of it is that it is fairly accurate, when compared to two different brand electronic thermometers and the weather service on my cellphone for our city. When first hung, it became obvious that it was consistently showing 5 degrees warmer than my references, but yes, there is an adjustment screw accessible on the back. Adjustment is for thermometer only, but the humidity indicator was fairly accurate from the start, so no issue with that. After a few weeks, it appears we made a good choice so far. Update: 12-14-2020 We went from light sweaters to heavy coats (now below freezing) weather and we are still enjoying the convenience of this really nice looking thermometer. No negative issues, just compliments. Update: 3-14-23 Still works great, and still loving it.

This analog thermometer uses a metal coil inside that changes with the temperature. Be sure to allow time for it to adjust to a new temperature. You may be familiar with digital thermometers that track temperature changes quickly, whereas an analog thermometer like this one takes longer, but this analog dial eventually settles on the correct reading. I tested this analog thermometer with three digital thermometers outside, over a period when temperatures ranged from 68F to 98F, and they all read within 1 or 2 degrees of one another. If you're testing your thermometer, do not compare it with your phone, because your phone tells you the temperature of the phone itself which is affected by the battery charging-discharging and the warmth of screen. My phone temperature usually reads higher by a few degrees, compared to my real thermometers. Also, do not compare with a weather app, because there can be significant temperature difference, 5 degrees easily, between your house and the weather station at a nearby airport where the app gets its data. The hygrometer on this item shows the relative humidity, but only approximately, and this is true for all consumer grade hygrometers. As one maker of scientific instruments commented, if you paid less than $400 for your hygrometer, it is just a toy. It will tell you if the RH is going up or going down, but the RH number itself is just a rough estimate. Don't expect it to match the sophisticated RH equipment at the airport (as shown by your weather app).

Numbers are a little small on Celsius end, but that is location only

I was looking for a larger model, but the 8-inch diameter is still okay since the numbers (even for humidity) are large enough to see from a reasonable distance. It looks good too. After placing this outside for a few hours, the readings were close but not truly accurate until I could calibrate both the temperature and humidity using the instructions provided. Take the time to do this and you'll be glad you did. I've noticed that when the humidity is over 75%, this reads consistently higher than what is being reported by online weather sources. The accuracy improves at lower levels. Hardly a deal breaker but worth knowing.
