It defaults to Energy Saver mode each time it starts. Do temperature & fan speed also reset to default setting? If so, what are the default settings?

No, I believe that it will restart at the same setting it was at for fan speed and definitely temp is the same as it was when it was shut off. I am very annoyed that it defaults to energy saver mode every time it is started whether by the button or on a timer.

I was planning on installing this in a second story bedroom window. Can that be done with out an outside support ?

First off, I LOVE the AC.. it’s powerful but also super quiet.. I put a support bracket on the window before installing this because it is a little on the heavy side and I didn’t want to much stress on the window frame. There are brackets available that are pretty good and a lot of them have levels built-in so that you can drop the LVL off on the outside to ensure the air conditioner does not end up bringing water to the inside of the house. They say at 2° angle going down from the window frame to the outside is enough to drain it but I have mine more around 5° just to be on the safe side. That said I would definitely put a bracket in.
