Review: Overview Introduction, Writing Style Takes Getting Used To - This Japanese Mythology Bible is not exactly what I'd call a "bible" and the boast of being 3 in 1 particularly left me lacking. That is partially my own fault for not paying attention to the fact that this book is only 164 pages long, leaving about 60 pages per "book" in this 3 in 1 collection. I also was not a big fan of the author's writing style. Often trying to imply how risque some of the Japanese myths can be without simply detailing them comes off more juvenile than mindful of modern sensibilities. There is far too much forced effort to seem clever with constant referral to "dear reader" or slipping in comments of how the author was feeling while writing it while taking an informal, conversational tone, saying "Here comes the highlight of the story, the tea, as the English would say, in short, the flab, the juice, the gravy [it's dinner time, can you tell?]" (see a page I included as a photo in this review). If you're looking for the highest level of introduction to Japanese mythology, this book will do the job, but for a better presentation - and far more value for your dollar - I would recommend Epic Tales: Japanese Myths & Tales from Flame Tree Studios. Review: Author gets in the way of a good read - The tales are good but I did not enjoy the author's style. Certain affectations got on my nerves. I expect "dear reader" from advice columnists, not in a collection of tales and folklore. Maybe they were trying to imitate Lemony Snicket?

The Japanese Mythology Bible
What is Japanese Mythology? A revolutionary world of stories and tales rooted in the worship of nature and unexplained phenomena and producing, through the highly personal imagination of a people characterized for centuries by isolation, a series of legends with an exquisitely oriental flavor.

I didn't realise this is one of those unreadable print-on-demand things. Gave up on page 18.
