Academic Assessment of the Stripper World
This book is a sympathetic view of a working class strip club's employees. The location is a medium sized rust belt town in northern New York state. The author is an academic doing research on the topic of strip club dancers as a means of supporting themselves and their children in an area where well paid jobs are scarce. The women working in the club do not have education or social advantages, which is the reason (primarily) that they do this work. Although the author clearly sympathizes with the situation, the writing is very academic with lots of references to other works by academic professionals. I did not feel that it was a "fun" read, as many of the personal memoirs on the subject can be. This is your go to book if you are currently in college studying anthropology or sociology.
