can this be used to place a persosn in a car?

I have used it successfully to put someone in a SUV. It is easier to put the person in the front passenger seat though.

Is there a harness or does it take participation from the patient...do they have to hang on to it.

This lift is used along with a sling, which is listed as "Full Body Patient Lift Sling With Commode Cutout Option No/Large" offered by What A Deals. (There is no commode cutout). The patient doesn't have to participate or hang on to it. The sling has loops which are placed onto the lift. If the patient has fallen, he is turned on his side and rolled onto the sling and then lifted.

One buyer used chains. How are they used? Do they stop patient from swinging?

The chains are used for support, part of system to keep the pt in a sitting position in the sling
