I measured 0.620" diagonally across the corners where the O-ring spring is. I measured 1.720" diagonally across the corners of the rectangular block that mounts the pivot pins. The block measured 1.540" across the wide flat part and 0.880" across the short side where the pins reside.

How does it work with between the 2 different size rod

The hex barrel into which you thread your slide hammer is stepped. The first 1/2 of the hole is 3/4-16, then it step down to 5/8-18 for the second half.

Needed modification (filing) but that was expected. Good value.

You will have to thin out the legs if you need to get it in a .625 bore bushing. Tool worked fine after the modification. Took about .050 off the inside of each leg.
