KastKing Sharky Spinning Fishing Reels for Saltwater & Freshwater

I am usually a mid tier type purchaser. Higher end pfluger, abu, fenwick, st. Croix type of buyer. I even have a few custom set ups. I wanted to buy some less expensive stuff and 2 piece for our Canadian fly in. All that being said, I think I'll be a kastking customer for years to come. Paired the sharky x with the perigee 2. I'm amazed with the whole setup and the value for what I paid for both. Super light weight, smooth as butter, seems to be very high quality and it all looks great too. As long as these hold up to some abuse, I'll slowly start buying more. So far, highly recommend. Bought an uglystik gx2 too just to compare them. Hands down happier with everything about kastking. This reel so far out of the box is in my top 3 favorite reels that I own.. if she does me well in Canada, it might turn into my favorite.

I was a bit hesitant on buying this reel, now that I am using it...I love it and buying more! It works amazing!!! I use it in saltwater caught big snappers, mackerels and barracuda. Drag is amazing, you wont regret buying this product.

Good reel for the price

One of my passions is surf fishing in So. Calif. As many know, surf fishing is hard on gear. Salt water brought in on the fishing line tends to find it's way into the internals of any reel. KastKing's Sharky proprietary sealing systems claims to prevent this to a measurable degree. There is a fella on You Tube that has intentionally abused his KastKing by fully immersing, dragging thru salt water on every trip for more than a year on an earlier Sharky model. He's buried in beach sand more times than I can count. After a full year of this intentional abuse, when opened up, there were but a few drops of water and virtually NO corrosion inside. The main, anti-reverse and bail trip gears were still in perfect condition. If that isn't a testimonial to the seals of the Sharky model, I don't know what else is??? I've been using the KastKing braids for more than two years now, find it was the tenacity, strength and sensitivity to match any of the popular brand names. Just recently tried the new Pro 9 braid and the co-polymer lines. Very please with both. This is my 2nd KastKing Sharky 3. A 5000 series on a 10 ft. Hurricane Heavy rod or on a Med. Heavy Shimano for bigger surf game fish. I am amazed at the casting distance these combos allow. On the 10 foot rod, I can throw a 1/2-3/4 oz lure up to 80 yards or more. Now, following the trend of light weight surf fishing pioneered by Bill Varney, a Sharky 3 2000 series on a 9 ft. Fenwick Steelhead/Salmon rod for lighter surf fish like perch, mackerel, and croakers. Casting with a short leader 1/4 oz Carolina rig, KastKing 15Lb. SuperKast 9 and small hooks for Gulp sandworms or grubs I can cast 60-70 yards out. Often right before the outside breakers, the inland shore troughs where surf fish like to feed. Unbelievable I can throw something so light so far but I feel this is the quality of the line, the reel and the rod combo. Like the many others have mentioned, the Sharky is an incredibly smooth casting and even better retrieving reel. Smooth doesn't begin to describe how easily. how smoothly these reels work. Better than even some hi end reels costing 2-3 times as much and more. If you are looking to get into some decent fishing gear without the high cost of big name brands, you'll be quite surprised and happy with KastKing. the jury's till out on long term support if/when the reels need some TLC. I can still buy parts for older Mitchel, Garcia and Penn reels. I hope down the road this is the case with the KastKing products.

Love these reels. Used to be a big name reel guy, but over the years they went down hill. These KastKings are affordable, and absolutley stout. I have owned 5 for over 4 years with a lot of time on flats. Never have I touched it or opened it, still reels like new. Weight and drag are far more superior then most name brands.

Big band for your bucks. Perfect balance,weight and cast ability.i bought two 4000 series and matched them up with 7”3heavy medium fast tip rods cast like a dream don’t miss out on these reels well built and the sharks x doesn’t have a anti reverse great for shore fishing I am impressed

Excellent and efficient fishing reel

I heard alot of good reviews before making my purchasing decision on the Shark 3. Unfortunately upon receiving the item, the package and reel itself seems to be somewhat secondhand or an RA item. Not surprisingly when I started using the reel for the first time, it make a clicking sound when you wind the reel. Not very happy with the quality. I was going to recommend my friend to purchase it, but after this experience i think the reviews weren't genuine.

I’ve landed a fair amount of fish with that reel. It was a good upgrade from my sienna. The drag is the main attractive feature. If you match it with the right rod and braid your are sorted without breaking the bank. It is Braid ready as well.

Great reel for the price. Very smooth. Pulled in some nice lakers with it.
