Q: Does any part of the instrument contain animal skin?

No, it is all synthetic. But, has many unique sound textures that can be played with a surprising amount of flexibility in the ways one can create manipulations with the sounds.

Have a look at this relatively inexpensive mic. I just got one and it works well with my LP udu drum. I have not tested with the Meinl yet, but it does fit into the Meinl’s mic hole. You’d hold it in place with a bit of putty.
