Nearly perfect shorts.
Reviewing the black shorts size 42. The star here is the fabric. Lightweight polyester with just a touch of stretch, no where near as stretchy as say Lycra bike shorts. But enough for good comfort and mobility. The fabric is textured in what I'll call a modern diamond "dobby" weave which, similar to seersucker, lets the fabric float on the skin rather than cling to it and is fantastic for hot sticky climates. It is more textured on the outer than on the inner surfaces and creates a mesh effect which is readily visible when held against light. The stuff just breathes very well for a synthetic.I don't like the inseam length which is I suppose about ten inches. This is of course a "mid length" by modern standards but is too long for my taste, I don't like cloth banging against my knees. And I especially don't like low hanging cargo pockets with heavy items banging against my knees with every step. Thankfully the pockets on these end a couple of inches above the hem. There is a possibility to shorten them which I may do, though the fabric is so light and stretchy as to be not nearly as bothersome as say pure cotton shorts cut the same tend to be. Those cargo pockets are excellent by the way, located correctly at mid lateral thigh, large enough to hold really large items especially as they are enhanced with expanding pleats. The bottom corners are mitered which prevents sand and other detritus from collecting there. There's a drop in cell phone pocket correctly located between the left cargo pocket and the thigh, where right handed wearers will be able to access their phone while their dominant hand is in other use. The top of these pocket falls just at mid finger when my hand is extended to my side which means the phone and other objects can be retrieved without an annoying side-bend to dig them out, and the pockets work well both seated and standing. The outstanding weakness of the cargo pockets is shared by the rear pockets, that is the closure is a puny single centered piece of Velcro. Okay it has good adhesion when closed but small items can still slip out of the top sides. It is easy to imagine a Power Bar sliding out by itself during a bike ride or the rear Velcro popping loose after bending over quite far and then a wallet surreptitiously falling out during a potty break. I may remedy this by stitching down the rear edge of the pocket flaps. This will only slightly impede access but will greatly enhance security. Those rear pockets are nicely sized too, I can insert a large hand held flat to past the thumb joint. Also mitered. Great for storing that large bandanna which is nice to have in those sweaty climates. The front side-seam pockets are neither vertical welted pockets nor angled slash pockets, but rather are cut on a curve. I'm telling you some one was paying attention when they designed these shorts. The pocket bags are free floating which encourages carried objects to stay inside them while the wearer is seated, and they're quite large extending about two inches below the top of the cargo pockets. The bags are not mesh but rather a strongly woven synthetic poplin which will not catch keys and will allow items to easily slide in and out.The cut of the legs is roomy and loose. No (expensive) gusseted crotch but none needed for freedom of movement as the generous leg diameter and stretchy fabric easily allow for a full head-high front leg kick without noticeable restriction. There is a dart centered above each rear pocket which snugs up the rise below the waistband helping to prevent the poofy Turkish "clown pants" look. This gives a slightly conical shape and is OK because there is enough stretch in the fabric to keep things comfy when seated and when moving fast. Looks like double needle stitching with serged and felled seams throughout, pocket flaps are bar-tacked. All very nice for the price. Small but not short genuine YKK coil fly zipper and a snap. I prefer a buttons which are easily user reparable but the provided aluminum snap seams robust and works smoothly. The waist band is self-fabric which means it is very soft and will roll easily but which also means gym-shorts comfort without a belt. There are a proper seven belt loops which are sturdily bar-tacked top and bottom and which will accommodate a real-man sized two inch belt easily. There is no lining anywhere. The inside rear label is printed and there is no hanging loop.Quite frankly these are damn near perfect shorts and an exceptional value. I just ordered a second pair and after reviewing the features, I have just about talked myself into a third. They're the kind of product that seems so good that they'll surely stop being made...

The perfect shorts no matter what milkshake you're bringing to the yard.
We're in an age where wearing durable "jorts" (jean shorts) will draw unwanted ridicule unless your name is John Cena. Even then you run the risk of dividing the population over your fashion sense. And if you're one of the many people like myself who have embraced the practicality of cargo shorts, then you'll find yourself on a slippery slope of fashion bias that says cargo shorts are now incredibly passé.I say to each their own and let your freak flag fly with whatever shorts you want to rock. But if you're the kind to keep up with the times and change up your look as much as Bowie is known for, then your journey will take you to the plain old straight leg short. However, you lose all your storage space now that you've forgone the side pockets all in the name of fashion.Which leaves you not a lot of choice out there, until now. Enter the Lee's Dungarees Performance Cargo Shorts.I don't remember the last time the word "Dungaree" came out of my mouth, but it's sure been happening a lot lately since buying these shorts. Although not made of blue denim, these shorts are the absolute best of all three worlds. The durability of jean-shorts, the practicality of cargo shorts, and the slim profile of the straight leg, no-side-pocket, shorts. These shorts are ridiculously awesome. For reals. They breath easy, aren't wrinkled like cargo shorts, have all the storage you need, fit true to size, and make your ass look like it owns the cover of GQ.These don't look like classic cargo shorts. They look much more like a straight leg short because the pockets lay flat on the sides. A simple but effective velcro closure is all you need to keep you items secure. And the material is breathable meaning you can use these while hiking, mountain biking, golfing, walking the harbor, or even if you want to let the "boys" breathe on a hot summer day.Wether you want to look dressed up or casual, these Lee Dungarees have you covered. And the colors are spot on. Something for everyone. I own three pairs of these in different colors and tossed my old shorts out to the curb like cheap wine.Grab yourself a pair of these, you won't be disappointed. Unless of course you hate feeling good in your clothes. Then you might regret it.

Great shorts
I have about 6 of these shorts for several years. They are the best. I bought a new “Tri-flex” Lee Performance and they do not compare. Tri-flex front pockets are very small. There cargo shorts are my go to shorts and now it’s time for me to buy new ones but availability is not great. Do not hesitate to buy these shorts.

Lightweight, Attractive Shorts
I ordered these shorts because they are light weight (I live in Florida) and I wanted a separate pocket for my cell. I am a big fan of Craighoppers shorts and trousers but my size wasn’t available so I gave these a try. Really happy with the material and the pockets, the side ones are quite deep and the velcroed cargo ones work well for my phone. The left side pocket has a strange extra space for maybe something thin that can be stored, not sure what that’s about. The shorts were a tad large in the waist. I am a 32 and these are loose on me, nothing that a belt can’t correct. I’m not sure if these really run large, it may be I’m running smaller than I was! Overall for the price I think this is a good option, my only concern will be waiting to see how the Velcro closures hold up. I also noted another review where the snap didnt last long. No issues with mine thus far. If they hold up I may get more, they are great for hot humid weather.

The perfect short
I have bought at least 6 pairs of these over the years. They are extremely: comfy, breathable, dry quickly, light, stretchy, well designed, durable, and value for the cost. The material is something like a dry fit linen but with stretch. On a hot day these are the shorts you want, cargo look without any heat build up. The pockets are a healthy depth without being weirdly deep. They don't need to be ironed and don't wrinkle, I can pull a pair out of the hamper after a week and they're fine. They have a nice look, you can wear them to play sports in and not be held back or to a nice business casual event and look sharp.I work in the trades and once I inevitably stain or damage a pair they become the best work shorts too lol100% recommend these, they're not just a cheapo brand, first pair I bought was on sale in a department store, regular price $70 for $35.... went back for more the next day! And now I buy them here!

Great Shorts with Cell Phone Pocket
I originally purchased this exact brand and style of short at VFOutlet in the USA for less than $20 USD in different colours. The main reason for selecting these shorts is that they have a dedicated cell phone pocket on the left leg. After being unable to find any of this style, or a similar style with a cell phone pocket, in Canada, I turned to Amazon. The material is wrinkle-free and wears very well. The shorts dry very quickly if wet and are comfortable. The front pockets have a nice depth (contents don't fall out when sitting) and the side cargo pockets are well positioned with a velcro flap. The rear pockets are also good depth, however, the velcro loses its loop and hook ability fairly quickly if the pocket is regularly accessed. The cell phone pocket is positioned well on the left side and is perfect for a smart phone. I can sit without my phone sliding out of the pocket. The online price range for these shorts is very high (up to $167). I purchased the exact brand in a different colour at VFOutlet for less than $20.The back pocket velcro is another issue to be mindful of.Overall these are very comfortable well made shorts. I hope to find more for a lower price.

Might want to consider one size larger than your size
I bought 2 pairs of these, one 32" and one 30". The 30's fit perfectly at the waist and the length is right, and the light material is perfect for summer, but... guys, unless you want the world to know (I'll use a tailor's term) "what side you wear your pants on"... go for one size up. The 32's need an extra belt notch for me to keep them in place, but at least in them I'm not walking around advertising my answer to the tailor. That said, these are fantastic summer shorts. I wish there were some solid color options but both the white and silver-ish shades will do for now.

Perfect for traveling!
I recently ordered a pair of these for a trip to Bali and Thailand and they were absolutely perfect for the trip. They're really light (perfect for carry-on only travelers), wrinkle free and they dry in hours after a quick wash. They're extremely comfortable in very hot weather thanks to the material and the cell phone pocket is a nice bonus, although you will find your phone flapping away against your leg when you walk with it there which is slightly annoying. I have zero complaints and will be ordering a second pair for my next trip and that's all the shorts I'm going to bring.
