Do the bits snap into place or is it just the magnet that holds them in? I am talking about the actual wrench, not the extension.

Just a magnet. It is strong enough to hold the 6" Wiha sockets in place. I have been working on motors over the water and the magnet, instead of catch has actually been really nice since I can add, or remove the ratch with one hand.
