Pitbull-tested, Pitbull-mom-approved. Thank goodness.
We are so grateful to have been recommended chlorhexidine shampoo by a friend. The Davis brand is the first we've tried and it is so helpful in reducing irritation and redness on our pitbull's chest, stomach, and groin. We have narrowed down the cause of her irritation to seasonal/environmental allergies, and to stress. When she came to us from the rescue, she was on antibiotics and steroids for dermatitis and bumps on her tummy. They had gone by the time the antibiotics and steroids ran out, but they came back two and three times with a vengeance. I thought it looked like a yeast infection, so I fed her yogurt and applied probiotic topicals. She was itching and sore and exhausted, and we felt awful. Twice the irritation turned into full-blown staph. I was convinced we had a real problem on our hands and was starting to panic. After all, we were already feeding her a grain-free limited-ingredient diet, along with organic yogurt supplements. We would even wipe her down each time she came in from outside with apple cider vinegar, or distilled water. We tried everything. Well I feel like a horrible dog mom, and I want to apologize to sweet Clara, because shampooing with this product just once took the redness and itching away. Twice, and the bumps flattened out. The webbing between her toes was red and itching--we soaked her feet in a water & shampoo solution, and they calmed down right away. Any time a tinge of that redness returns to her sensitive tummy, we cover it in a thin lather and let it sit for ten minutes. Rinse very well, and the next day, right as rain. I don't know why I hadn't heard of this product before. I've been a dog owner on and off my entire life. I am so, so grateful to have discovered this, and I'm preaching it to everyone I know. We haven't used the shampoo in two months and she still doesn't have any problems. We now mix a little in with her regular lavender shampoo she gets washed with once or twice a month. Easy. Smells great. Works great. Thank God.

Poor pup! The right rear foot was so swollen ...
Combined Davis benzoyl peroxide, chlorhexidine, and miconazone shampoos into one to finally tame my Chihuaua's whole body fungal infection. Somehow, her immune system had gotten depressed, developed fungus on paws and in ears, and fur smelled skunky. Bathing in antifungal shampoos helped a little, soaking feet in apple cider vinegar helped a little, soaking in povidine-iodine helped a little, applying Chlotrimazole cream helped a bit, but nothing quite knocked it out. Paws were verrry swollen and itchy, and she licked every last hair off them. Even after bathing the underside webbing of the paws felt slimy. Based on obvious signs of fungus, combined with hot spot sores, slimy areas, I concluded she was afflicted with several issues simultaneously. Poor pup! The right rear foot was so swollen from the fungus she couldn't put weight on it. The slimy patches were a combination of biofilm and layer of dead fungus that compromised ability of medications from killing fungus. Combining the shampoos simultaneously targeted mange (skunky smell), fungus, and bacterial infection. I lightly scrubbed slimy areas with a small child's toothbrush dipped in shampoo to mechanically remove the biofilm, then lathered a second time with my concoction, let it sit for a couple minutes before rinsing. Repeated the shampoo ritual twice a week on the whole body, twice a day (morning and evening) on the paws. Almost immediately her condition improved. Still dabbed a bit of 2% hydrocortizone cream to the paws and under the tail to tame the itch. After 3 week all the fungus was gone, biofilm gone, swelling in all paws gone except for a bit in the right rear, fur growing back. Couple more weeks and the last of the swelling on the right rear was gone, all paws had fur on them again. Still shampoo her twice a week with the concoction to prevent recurrence (skip the brushing though), she smells wonderful, is much happier, walks and jumps normally. The key was attacking all 3 sources of irritation simultaneously by mixing the medicated shampoos, and ALSO removing the biofilm so the shampoos could work effectively.

Good for my westie
Theo gets build up of keratin on his skin and has interdigital cysts-recurrent. I use this to keep his skin super clean at least twice a week. Not as much chlorhexidine (maybe.5 less) as the Duoxo brand but then again it is not as expensive. Doesn't have the fresh scent either but.....

his skin got much better and the hair began to regrow
My pit bull had some severe allergy issues. He started to lose his hair in patches, especially on his tail and legs, and I tried various products (tea tree oil, oatmeal shampoos, etc.) before I read online resources suggesting this shampoo to treat the condition. The vet suggested it was worth a try. After a couple of weeks using this shampoo every 2-3 days, his skin got much better and the hair began to regrow. The treatment was in combination with other allergy medications that his vet prescribed. While I cannot definitively say this shampoo was the solution, it certainly worked in combination with the other medicines, and when I discontinued the medication and continued to use this shampoo, he did not lose his hair again. Moreover, the shampoo did not dry out his skin despite regular washings and he smelled so good after routine use, so I would recommend on that basis alone if you like your pet clean!

Product works well and smells good
Seems to work well on our small dog. I have been buying Davis CHG shampoo for 2+ years and shampoo our dog weekly. Our vet says his skin looks great.

Amazing results! You guys have to try this shampoo! I have a white Maltese who would constantly chew at her paws until they were inflamed & bloodied. She literally looked abused lol. After numerous visits to the veterinarian, the only option they gave me was an injection for allergies which had harsh side effects. So I turned it down. I had a friend who told me that her dog would chew their paws and it was because of yeast. I tried everything, she recommended including peroxide and water, apple cider vinegar and water, coconut oil, you name it. I tried it! Nothing worked. So I googled what kills yeast and chlorhexidine kept coming . So I jumped on Amazon and I came across this shampoo! Let me tell you after the first wash (you’re supposed to leave it on your pup for 10 minutes) - I left it for less than 7 minutes because there’s no way she would sit in the tub for longer than that… I noticed quite the difference right away. First off, my dog smelled amazing. Her fur was so soft, and she barely chewed at her paws! Fast-forward, 4 shampoo treatments later I’m noticing a HUGE difference! Her paws are no longer red, inflamed, and that “doritos” paws smell is 100% gone! * I also purchased the smiling paws antibacterial, and antifungal medicated spray which contains chlorhexidine and ketoconazole. It removes yeast, bacteria and fungus! I apply the spray to her affected area three times a week. And lastly I also bought the Dr. Maggie skin care ointment. I use this cream after walking her in the winter because her paws get irritated with all the salt they apply on the sidewalks. - This shampoo works so well in fact, that after I noticed my mini poodle scratching herself because of her dry skin I started using it on her too and now she no longer scratches! I hope this review helps others because it really worked for both my doggies!

faulty seal 2 different purchases a year apart
I've bought it twice now and both times the seal under cap had failed and a bit of product had come out and had dried on the bottle. it's gotta be a faulty seal if both were like this years apart. It didn't affect product whatsoever. It works very well on any fungal or bacteria. I use it carefully on my guinea pigs if needed

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Finally… a shampoo that keeps my drama‑king Staffy from self‑destructing
I’ve been buying this stuff for the past 2 years, and honestly, it’s the only thing standing between my American Staffy and his lifelong dream of chewing his own paws clean off. This dog has allergies so dramatic they deserve their own reality show. One blade of grass touches him wrong and suddenly he’s acting like he’s been cursed by a witch. Enter: Davis Chlorhexidine Shampoo, the hero of our household. Not only is it way cheaper than the fancy vet stuff, it actually works. After a bath with this, my problem child gets real relief—like, “I can finally stop gnawing my feet like a stressed-out beaver” levels of relief. And the best part? It doesn’t dry him out or leave him smelling like a hospital hallway. If your dog is also a sensitive little gremlin with skin issues, allergies, or a flair for dramatic paw-chewing, this shampoo might just save your sanity. And your furniture. And your dog’s dignity. 10/10 would recommend. My Staffy would too… if he wasn’t busy being offended by the existence of pollen. Photo of my problem child attached.
