What distance do these work over?

We have ours working over 70 metres or so, with clear site lines it should do a lot longer distance

Are they omni-directional or do they have to be lined up exactly?

Yes you need two of these to make a point to point connection.

Do I need to convert my router to have static IP address to make this work?

Your router is always the first IP address on your network (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) so no you do not need to convert it because it is already static.
