Reviews have been too harsh for this title
Atari has been working hard to try to breath new life into classic games, and while Atari Mania is not perfect, it is a very good attempt at adding new elements to the 2600 classics. There is a rather lighthearted story akin to Night at the Museum but if it was in an Atari game museum instead. Much of the challenge is in the mini-games you play to unlock secrets and advance the story. It is a mix of orginal gameplay and mixing of game elements from multiple games. For example, you may have to play a round of Outlaw but you have your shootout in the Centipede game. Or, you may use the tank from Combat and drive through a maze to shoot barrels to damage a boss, or you may fly a plane from Combat through the "waterfall" from Swordquest Earthworld. In the overhead world, the caretaker must navigate through the museum and engage in a little puzzle-solving.Admittedly, some of the challenges can be difficult. The father you go into the game, the more challenges you must pass to advance. For example, you have have to finish ten mini-challenges, and you have six tries to finish them all. Some of the games represented in the challenges are the usual Atari classics like Centipede/Mllipede or Pong, but there are also some games that don't get as much attention, like the Swordquest games, Sentinel, and Dark Chambers. (People are comparing the gameplay to Mario Ware. I've never played that game so I cannot say if it does.)It is worth a playthough even if the story is a bit cheesy. I have to admit, a couple of the challenges are a bit TOO difficult, but I thought the developers did a good job with mixing elements of games together to create new challenges.

Wario Ware rebranded
So popped this in and it very quickly became apparent the makers are a fan of the Wario Ware series as this is very much a series of mini games interrupted by short story segments. Not a bad game per se but really nothing to brag about even if you're a die hard Atari fan.I think you get a chance to play the original games in this, but honestly put there are soooo many other ways to play them from the Atari 50th anniversary game, to the Flashback collections and you don't have to unlock anything to do so.

Horrible game, clunky and not fun at all
I hated everything a out this flaming turd and actually wish I never wasted even a second on this terrible game. Avoid at all cost. It's like something a high school game creator would make.

Meh
As an old time Atari fan I was hoping for more from this game. It is trying to be a Warioware style game with a little bit of adventure and story thrown in. I like all the nods to characters in old Atari games, but the actual gameplay falls flat. The controls are way too slow and sluggish to really enjoy. And some of the mini games takes a lot of trial and error to finish. I will try and persevere through the whole game just to see all the characters and story, then again maybe not. I may just shelve it and play a different game.I really wish they would have worked on the controls a little bit more.
