Great textbook
Had this as an assigned textbook in one of my college education courses. It is fantastic! There are many resources within the text.

Unique textbook
I bought this text in lieu of the much more expensive 8th edition for a class. The page numbers are different but the text is close enough. This book is a little mind-numbing but that is because it contains a tremendous amount of info you really won't find elsewhere, crammed into a very small space. It's a keeper, and that is a rare thing to say about a textbook. Try to get a copy with the disk.

I have taught Children's Literature for years and "Through the Eyes of a Child" sets the standard for related text books. It's a shame that the cost is prohibitive for many of my students. A list price of almost $200 for the 8th edition hard copy is way out of line. This is the main reason that I have not used it as a required text for the past few years...

Great shape
I needed this book for a class I was in and it came in good time and was in perfect condition. I actually enjoyed this book as well and will probably continue to use it in the future.

The WORST Textbook I Ever Had
I was really excited about taking Introduction to Literature. This book has really killed my enthusiasm in the first two chapters, and I'll probably withdraw from the class. THIS BOOK IS HORRIBLE. It is a bunch of quotes from medical research and papers from psychologists and an exhaustive list of every children's book lists ever written. There is boring and unnecessary filler information added in with the psychologist's quotes and children's book to make the book long enough to qualify as a textbook. The chapters are 40 pages long. I have ADHD. I ordered the audio version of this book, which made it a little better, however, I absolutely WOULD NOT recommend this book in ANY form.In addition, this book is nowhere near the asking price. Do yourself a favor and buy it used or rent it, because other than using it as a resource of recommended children's book you likely won't use it again.

Good information, but not worth the buy price
This was a required textbook for a Children's Literature class.Too expensive to buy and not worth as much as they ask for it, although rental is cheaper now that I'm done with it (so glad I was able to rent it!).Good information inside the book though. The chapters are long, and like another reviewer said -- the author spends most of the book quoting other sources so this is more like a compilation of other people's opinions, research, and data. Each chapter gives you suggested reading for each grade range though, and alot of helpful tips on how to pick your own books for children of various ages.
