Incorrect configuration instructions
The configuration instructions on the CD are incorrect:(1) Attach the Ethernet cord for the extender directly into your host computer (not through a router or other connection)(2) Access your network adapter (ethernet) for Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) on your host computer.(3) Click on Properties(4) Change the IP address to: 192.168.10.2 (instructions incorrectly say 192.168.1.100)(5) Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0(6) Default gateway to: 192.168.10.1(7) Click on okay(8) In your internet browser, enter: 192.168.10.1(9) You should be able to access the Encore Extender now, and type in the username/password (admin/admin)(10) Follow the rest of the instructions on how to setup the extender. After you are finished configuring the Extender, you'll need to change your network adapter properties back to what they were originally so that your host computer can access the internet again. That's it. It was a pain as I was trying to figure this out, but finally watched a video on youtube about the Encore Extender, which had similar instructions. This also works on Windows 8. I use these as Access Points, and they work pretty well. I have a large house, so my router's wireless signal doesn't go very far. I use Powerline to get more areas in the house where I can place these Access Points. I have also used the Actiontec Moca adapters, which work better than the Powerline ones as the Moca has a higher bandwidth, and I have to constantly reset the powerline adapters.

So far, so good
Package arrived two days earlier than anticipated. Setup was finished in less than 10 minutes; I did have to change the IP address of my computer's network adapter to connect to the extender for setup. Not at all difficult for the technologically inclined, but less advanced users might find this a little tricky, as the instructions aren't crystal clear about how to do this on all operating systems. My main router is on the second floor of my house; I placed the extender in my basement to cover the bottom part of my house. I was worried that speeds would be slower with the extender, since I was using as a repeater and not a hard-wired access point. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that network speeds on either the main router or the extender seem to be equally fast. The main router and the extender use the same SSID on the same channel without issue; I am able to seamlessly roam throughout my house. I use Verizon FiOS for my internet access.Pleasantly surprised for such an inexpensive product. The external build quality seems to be on the cheap side, but I wasn't expecting it to be on a par with Netgear or Cisco. We'll see how it holds up over the long haul, but so far, so good!

Worthless as a repeater, works okay as an AP
Bought this after reading lots of mostly positive reviews. Would not work at a REPEATER (reason I bought it) and even had an IT specialist try it with no luck. Ended up buying a different brand and it works fine. I did hook this unit up several months ago to use as an AP and its been working okay in that mode.

If you can follow directions, it works great
When I was searching the internets for reviews on Encore extenders, I got a mixed bag. Some people claimed it worked great, while the rest either complained about the setup or the company itself. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived, and its directions were very straightforward and easy to understand. It's not written for a complete novice, but if you're shopping for an extender then you probably have the requisite knowledge. Initial configuration does require you to connect it via ethernet cable to a computer/laptop.If you want to read up on setup before you get it, check out the manual:[...]It performs its desired task perfectly for me. I had a wireless Blu-ray player in my bedroom that didn't get good enough signal to stream video. Part of the reason is my player is buried in a hutch, so the wireless antenna is obscured. I got this to initially act as a repeater so my player could wirelessly connect to it. Rather than rely on two wireless signals, I connected my Blu-ray player via its ethernet port to the repeater's ethernet ports. Now it basically acts as an externally powered, universal wireless adapter (my player sees it as a wired connection). You wouldn't even need to have wireless capability on your device in the first place! This little guy does its job very well and the price is hard to beat, so I would highly recommend it.

Terrible to connect to
OK when working and seems to be stable. But it will not allow for ease ofconnections. Must adjust IP settings to have browser connect. Futileattempts. Perhaps it will connect for me one day and I will be able to use.

Great product....important note
Great product. I have used Encore routers and repeaters before. It is a great low cost unit, that is not available at Staples. Most other routers do not repeat. That is an important function in some installations. My only complaint, is they changed the way you access the router. The book says type in the ip address, but what it did not say is you need to put a static IP address in the host PC before it will connect up. It seems that most other routers do not need this...... including other Encore units. That is certainly no problem, but I wasted time before I finally wrote to Encore, and that took 2 days for a response. I wish they said something in the manual. Very frustrating on-site and I could not use the product until later.

Plug and play...
I just plugged this in to extend the wireless network in the upper floor of my house. Our wireless router is in the basement so the signal up here can drop out at times. I simple plugged it into the Ethernet jack up in the office and it worked fine with no issues (open network though). I have not tried to set up a password or encryption yet so we'll see how that works not but so far so good. Also, dummy me had also bought an Ethernet switch too but when I received this I realized it is also an Ethernet switch. So I replaced the Ethernet (no wireless) switch with this one, now I've got the 4 wired ports and the wireless signal coming in strong on the upper floor. Good buy for the money.
