Learn about it before you get it!
So for you to make some success with this product, you need to know exactly what you’re doing. My success was by hydrating this completely into water. Do not mix that, I just put the distilled water in a beaker, sprinkled a little of this powder on the top, covered it with plastic wrap and then I put it in the fridge overnight. It came back next day fully hydrated on its own. I didn’t even try to mix it. 2% is good, but don’t expect it to be really sick so it works as a co-thickener not a thickener on its own. Use this at strength of 0.15% of your original thickener. For me I created a pre-hydrated bottle that is 150 ml at 2% strength and I preserved it with Geoguard ECT and I kept that in the fridge for future use.

Great for paper mache projects! Make sure the water is HOT!
Finally a substitute for the discontinued Elmer's art paste that all us Art teachers LOVED. Only note- make sure to use HOT water or it is super lumpy and you need way more water than the directions that i found online, which is great because it makes it go a lot further. Great for paper mache projects!

Not for use in skin care
If you are new to homemade cosmetics and found this product thinking it was a close enough and slightly more affordable product to hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) powder, DO NOT BUY THIS. It does not work as expected, needing much more per volume to thicken the mixture, and it smells absolutely terrible. My lovely hydrosol smells like lavender until I add this stuff, which smells like a horrible cleaning agent. I did some reading upon using this stuff for the first time and discovered that hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is more commonly used in masonry and outdoor applications, which makes sense when I look at the products I've used it in. Serums and masks dry into a rubbery, sticky film that will peel off your face if left and need to be scrubbed off. Heavens knows how badly it's been clogging my pores. I will be using xanthan gum until my newly-ordered HEC powder gets here.

A cosmetic-grade hydroxypropyl methylcellulose for small batch creations …
I see hydroxypropyl methylcellulose in the list of many cosmetics. There’s a hydroxypropyl starch, which is in foods, so don’t confuse the two. I have a young relative who is getting into anything cosmetic and can use this in her creations. This is a small cosmetic-grade hydroxypropyl with only 3.52 ounces (100g). If you need a lot for production purposes, simply take a pass. On the back of the package are packaging and expiration dates. It’s manufactured in China, but packaged in India. It’s in a Mylar-like, resealable bag to ensure freshness of the product. There’s no clumping of the powder. The price at this point in time is slightly under $10 as it’s on sale.

It's exactly what it describes itself as.
This product is exactly what it describes itself to be and its properties match how it is described in my use of it cosmetic and liquid formulas.

Great products
The quality of their products are good. I ended up using ethyl instead because it has a better consistency, but can attest to this being a great product too.
